Ok, I really don't get the sensitivity sorry. However I am not asking anyone to lay down everything about why the believe what they believe, I am simply asking someone to explain how they can similtaniously believe in science, which is governed by strict adherence to rules. (For example, water turns to steam at a precise and predictable temperature, not sometimes, not most of the time, but all the time. The only way that this can be made a variable is to change the chemical composition, for example adding salt.) and creationism which if one takes the bible as one's source (I know of no other) is contradictory and has huge gaps and inconsistancies.

The only possible way that I can make sense of the bible version of creation is if I assume that genesis is an allegory, that god made the universe and what happened after that event is governed exclusively by the laws that scientists have discovered govern the natural world and moreover that these laws are not able to be transcended even by god because there is no evidence in our universe of the unstable and unpredictabel environment that would inevitably result if these laws are only applicable sometimes or even most of the time.

Now, it may be that I have a faulty handle on science because I am not a science major, but feel free, those of you with a science bent to explain how it is possible to have an unpredictable force that is undetectable which can transcend natural laws without changing the very nature of the laws and their predictablity?

Oh, and if you find my posts insulting the please understand that they are not intended to be but maybe they should simply be ignored if you have no reason/desire to respond to them because of the perceived insult or any other reason that you might have.

Platy, I know that you feel very strongly about your views and for the most part when it comes to interaction with you, I've found you to be respectful.

Sometimes I type what's in my head when I shouldn't. Most people here are aware of my feelings about it, so I don't really need to respond to topics like this. I probably shouldn't, in fact. That's why I apologized to Stina.

Yes, I find the Creation Story to be impossible. No, I cannot understand how people believe it. But that is to be expected.

Sometimes I should just keep my mouth shut, though. I'm not going to talk someone out of their religion, nor do I really want to. Ergo, why bother?

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Science is science.

However, with the creation story, you have religion trying to give an explanation of something physical not something spiritual, the origins of life. Surely only science should be used to explain the physical world?

Cleo's extrapolation of the debate stats cracks me up to no end. 39 responders may be representative of VJ (debatable, as there are far more than 39 members), but extrapolating it to 30.5 crore US population is like doing an extrapolation of tactics from a (hypothetical) invasion of San Marion, and applying the same to (also hypothetical) invasion of Russia.

Cain killed Abel and was cast out of Eden. He wandered around, eventually coming to the Land of Nod; a place of Pagans. There, he married a local woman. He did NOT marry a sibling. He married one of "the Other People" - The people NOT created by Yahweh-god. The people who worshipped other gods, had their own creation stories, etc.

Cain couldn't have married a sibling or another woman. For killing his brother, he was cursed and became the first vampire. :P
