K1 Instructions from the Embassy

On Wednesday I am flying to St. Petersburg, Russia and will be joined there by my fiancee for 3 weeks. I expect the Moscow embassy to receive our K1 application during that time and I worry that they will be mailing out the instructions to Yulia while she is out of town. If you have ever seen Russian mail boxes, you will know how unsecure they are, and this is a sorce of concern.

What does the embassy mail out? Is it just a letter? Is it a big packet? Will there be a notice of it being mailed on the USCI web site?

Relax, it will probably be more than a month until she gets anything. Several ladies did not receive anything until less than a month before their interview. If you are worried take a look at their website as everything is there. Time to get the police clearances NOW, however.

Do not wait for them to mail anything, you will likely never get it. Go to the website and download packet 3. It is basically a packet of instructions and the DS 156 and DS 156K forms. You can easily download it and take it with you. The consulate will accept and even recommends doing this (they are aware of the Russian and Ukrainian mail service problems)

According the consulate in Kiev, they sent my fiancee the packet 3 on June 13. We had our interview August 7, and visa in hand August 11. Still no packet 3 delivered to her address! DO NOT wait for this to arrive. You should download this now, and work on getting all forms prepared. As soon as the consulate receives your case, make your interview appointment!
