Hi Guys!

To those who have their case at US Embassy in Manila.

I will have my medical examination on Feb 18.

Can I request for one day medical examination in SLEC? Please share the medical examination procedures in SLEC.

Thank you!

Unfortunately you cannot. We tried this because my finacee is a plane ride away from Manila and hotel and lodging was needed too. You have to plan for at least 2 days for your fiancee, if you have kids plan for 3 days.

PLEASE PM ME if you have more questions, I'll be very happy to help you! My fiancee just finished the medical Monday.

Godspeed

PM me for any AP or AR relating to the NBI

Hi! Does SLEC have parking lot?

Hello -

Ok, stupid question here.

My fiance got a letter from the embassy in manila stating that they had received the paperwork for the K-1 visa from the california service center. Everyone refers to Packet 3 in these posts. Is that one-page letter Packet 3, or should she be receiving something else?

Thanks, Jim

OK, my turn to vent!

I called the embassy today. they have had may case since Jan 5th. I by-passed the normal process and called them directly. It took a little whining and bitching, but I finanally talked to someone. They werent really willing to help me so much, but I finally got her to look at my case information. She said, we are doing additional administrave processing on your case.

So I asked how long

She said varies case by case.

Finally got her to look at it, and she said, ohh - it will probably be a while.

I said like how long?

She said maybe 2-3 months.

This is after I have given them all the paperwork they wanted.

So this Stupid embassy is going to sit on my case for 3-4 months. I jumped through fricken hoops to get her daughter a visa so she could even attend the interview, but the damn visa may expire before I can even get the damn interview now.

This is just BS!!!!!!!!!!! I know I was lucky to get through USCIS as fast as I did, but now to have to wait more months at the embassy - with no explanation except administrative processing is just BS!!!!!!!!! I hope no one else has this problem.

quick question. Normally the visa approval is good for 4 months. If the embassy sits on it past that time, do I need to ask for extension? This is their delay, not mine.

K1 visas are valid for 6 months. If you think you cannot enter the US within the 6 months you may apply for an extension.

Yep! Packet 3 is only a letter from US Embassy. There's instruction there on what to requirements needed before interview.

Hahaha! Thanks!

- Chuck - Just wondering, why did you choose Tokyo? I am observing that US embassy here in Manila is easier to get interview as well as the visa if you only have complete documents that they need for approval of visa. I wish they will finish AP in your case sooner.

OK 2 things.

You got 4 months from petition approval to apply for visa. once visa is issued you have 6 months to enter the country. then you have 90 days before visa expires (for K1). if you dont apply for visa within 4 months, you need to issue a letter requesting embassy to extend the visa application - they will extend for 4 more months. if you dont request, they will send the visa approval back. So I dont know if the embassy takes to long to approve the interview if I need to request them to extend or if the 4 months starts when they say you can interview. According to Tokyo Embassy Web-site:

Validity of the approved I-129 petition

The approved petition I-129 is valid for four months. In order to qualify for a K visa, you must apply for your visa before the end of this four months period. If you need more than four months to finalize your visa application, your petition must be extended for an additional four months. (The validity of the petition is noted in the Notice of Approval I-797 sent by USCIS to the US citizen petitioner or to the attorney assigned.) In case you need to extend your petition, please ask your fiancé(e) to send a signed and dated letter, address to the “U.S. Consul" of the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo or U.S. Consulate in Naha by fax (Tokyo: 03-3224-5929 Naha: 098-876-4243) which reaffirms his/her interest in bringing you to the U.S. and request an extension of the validity of your petition for an additional four months. In the letter, your fiancé(e) must also include a reason why he/she would like an extension. As soon as we received this letter, we will normally extend the validity of your petition by four months.

Why Tokyo. Good question, but simple answer. According to NVC, you must interview in the country you reside in. Grace lives in Japan. I requested Osaka, but they dont do K1/2, so it was moved to Tokyo. Complication was her daughter was still in Philippines and didnt have visa for Japan - I got her a visa to visit Japan, but now that they are going to take months, I need to send her back to finish School and Grace to do some other things in Philippines (including medical for our baby). So, I am trying to decide if I should cancel the lease on her apartment or not. But I need to keep her address, but I dont like to have an apartment I am paying for sitting empty.

Orginal plan was she would stay in Japan and work, (which I visit Japan fairly often, so it was good), but then she became preganant and has some complications, so she is not working. But at that point, it is complicated to get transfer to different embassy and some paperwork she has is Japanese, some is Philippines, so it is even more difficult to go to Manila.
