guys guys guys! I do not have the skills to make such bread! It was the weekly special at the grocery store.

With all this free time on your hands while you wait, I thought maybe you learned those skills. You got lots of time to become a master baker in the next couple of months before your Finacee is here. Practice Practice Practice.

Anybody else learning any new skills while they wait?

I have been studying Tagalog. Everyone from the Philippines tells me it is easy, but I think that is because THEY ARE FROM THE PHILIPPINES!!!!!!!!!!! I generally learn quickly, but other languages is not my strong suit. I studied Spanish 3 years in High School - that helps with my tagalog, but I couldnt really carry on a conversation in Spanish, but I can read about 60% so it also helps when I travel to Mexico.

I have been trying to learn Japanese for about 14 years (OK, not trying real hard, but trying). I still have a limited vocabulary. Now I am using Rosetta Stone for the Tagalog. I am already up to unit 4 in the first level, so I am supprised how much I have learned. The problem is, when I see it, or hear it, I basically understand it, but I cant remember enough words to speak it so well yet and when the sentence is not one that I know, I dont know the proper sentence structure yet.

But if anyone is trying to learn a language, I think Rosetta Stone is the most effective way I have ever seen.

Last night, I was talking with my Fiancee and she asked me what I am drinking in tagalog, I just answered - I knew what she said. So PROGRESS!!!!!!!! haha

I have been skipping the typing sections on Rosetta stone, so maybe writing the words will help me to remember them better. Funny, but even when I remember the words, I realize I can spell worth a #### in tagalog either. Who knew spelling would be such a problem.

Well I got about 34 days before I go back to the philippines, so I hope my skills improve significantly before then. I have only had the course for about a month, so maybe I can finish all of unit 1 before I go.

Spanish, Japanese, Tagalog! You got your hands full. I myself have studied 3 years of Spanish in HS, and 1 year French, also did two semesters of Spanish in College and one semester of Japanese. I stunk at Japanese But I did travel there in 1997 and do remember what I learned from that trip. I suggest you make flash cards. That's the way I like to learn new words or letters. Although I can speak basic Spanish and a few phrases in other languages right now my primary target is operation Hindi! Sam will teach me more once he's here but I do have a collection of materials, books etc that I've gathered to learn. Good luck in your studies!

Strangely in the 2 months before leaving Korea I have learned and spoken more Korean than in the previous 6 years. I think I have been doing it to distract myself. But everyone is commenting on how much my Korean has inproved (though I am sure I will forget it all in the weeks of vacation with my sweety.)

Once I get to my sweety (5 more days!!!) on of my first focusses is going to be some decorating. He is a single dad, but his house is still a bachelors pad. I wont go crazy (or rather tooooo crazy) but it needs some work. I have packed some nice Asian cloth and even just some pillow and curtains will make his house look like a home (I am getting a sewing mashine for Xmas ;-)

I dont understand american homes. Storage are just these big empty spaces. Maybe my next skill to learn should be carpentry ... then I can put big shelves in everywhere.

Hey fellow September filers......Christmas is coming quick! This will be the first Christmas together for me and my honey. We've both been living in our own places alone for so long and kinda set in the ways of "how" Christmas should be. So it should be interesting to see how things go. Just wondering...any one have any plans on what new Christmas traditions you plan on starting once your reunited with you sweeties permanently? I want to start the whole filling the sock thing again, ...it was my favorite part of Christmas morning. Something you can't do when you live alone. I miss that. So I made Peter a sock to hang on the fireplace! How bout you guys?

I love the idea of Xmas socks. Its not something we did while I was growing up, but we had some one Xmas when a lot of friends got together who were all having Xmas away from home. So making Xmas socks for Paul, the kids and me just went on the "to-do" list.

My fiance is so eager to learn Tagalog. It took me a lot of patience to teach him. He is getting better everyday. I started teaching him how to read Tagalog words. I bought an English-Filipino dictionary for him. I taught him the Filipino grammar because it isn't the same when you translate it in English. For his progress, he could sing and memorized better Tagalog song now.

By the way, I heard it too that Rosetta Stone is good.

Mom and Dad, or sorry...Santa would wrap all the things in our sock....which was a skill cause we always got a big apple and a hugh orange, not an easy item to wrap!! But there would be all kinds of little things in there. I think I loved it so much cause because of all the excitement on unwrapping little presents. Santa filled 3 socks at our house growing up...now me just doing the one could put you in the poor house so I decided to make some things to put in it....a "love" coupon book....for one. Nothing like a coupon for a foot massage from your sweetie!

Not fast enough! Waiting for this NOA2 is like waiting for Christmas to come when you're a little kid...only much worse! At least with Christmas you knew what day to look forward to, and you could count down the days on the calendar or by cutting the links on the chain. But alas, we must wait indefinitely until the USCIS gods decide to have mercy on us! 83 days and counting... (Although it will be much BETTER than Christmas when we finally get approval!! )
