Well, it seems there is not so much conversation going this weekend, so I will try to start something for those of us who are bored.

It seems the long, cold, dreary, winter here has already started. More rain today, but snow is probably just around the corner. Anybody worried about their SO adjusting to a new life together? Whether you are coming to the US or they are coming to the US, not only to the culture, the weather, and everything else that will be so different - What do you think will be the biggest adjustment will be for someone coming to the US? What will be your adjustment and theirs?

I giggle every time I think of him adjusting to the weather here in Cleveland. He might be here by the end of winter, and winter's last here till April or May haha. Welcome to Cleveland, here's a big coat =D He's never experienced weather this cold before!!!.

For me being the one coming to the States I think will be going from a full time job, to not being able to work for until I obtain my EAD and not having a regular source of income coming in. That will be a super big adjustment. I am not quite sure what I am going to do with myself until I am able to find a job.

The biggest adjustment I think for the US citizen is having a person they haven't lived with for that long before, all of a sudden being a part of their life 24/7 and having to financially provide help to support them while they are waiting to be able to find work on their own.

Big changes for both people, but hopefully a smooth transistion.

I am a little worried about not having a full income coming in for three months or however long it takes to get the EAD, I have never had to rely on someone else to look after me after moving out of my parents home when I was 17.

.

It may not be such a big transition for you, Canada and US are not so different (depending on location of course).

Hopefully the income wont be so bad for either of you. I dont know how long it takes to get the EAD, but if it is just a few months, it might be a nice break from work just to be able to have that time together to get used to living together.

I was married previously and supported my ex, so that wont be a transition at all for me. Even living together, I dont expect to be a big issue. We have spent a lot of time together, several times, it was just staying in hotels, (which seems more like a vacation than actual life) but I have had the good fortune to spend about 3 1/2 weeks living with her in an apartment in Japan. I worked daily, but had the weekends and most evenings free. She worked a few days, but was able to take time off so we could just be together.

I have really no concerns for me, but I am a little concerned for her. Leaving her friends and family, even finding a job that she will like here (if she wants to work). Since she has experience already living in another country, I have less concerns for her, as I know she will be able to adjust. I have traveled alot, but I cant really imagine moving to a another country & starting over. Hopefully everyone can be patient and help their SO's through the adjustment period.

Yeah, adjustment is one of the concerns that we always discussed. We're thinking options of what will I do once I get there. Like continuing my studies (I will try to become cross-enrollee to finish my graduate studies), or finding any possible work I like (I couldn't just stay at home doing nothing other than house chores).

But I guess, the adjustment period is just fine because it would the time for you to take care one another together without thinking time limitation. :D

lol yup! And snow is a magical thing for him to experience. It was magical for me the first year or two I lived here but not no more lol. I experienced my first blizzard earlier in the year and I got pics to prove it! That was not fun!

I was just reading some other threads and I found one that said USEM in Manilla was so far behind, they are not even doing interviews in Nov / Dec :angry::angry: . In some other posts, there was another thread (active) listed in case anyone is interested.

the link was : http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...&start=1320

The thread that mentions the backlog is http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...c=161995&hl=

Hope this is not too much of a delay for anyone, but it mentions that after interview, some people are waiting months to get visa :crying: .

So far, it is making me glad I requested my fiancee to be in Osaka instead of her going back to Manilla.

Is anyone seeing delays anywhere else? Certainly Manilla seems to be by far the busy embassy.

I am starting to feel bad for my Pinoy friends too  . It seems us American guys are steeling so many beautiful ladies from the Philippines :blush::thumbs::dance: Yeah, Ok, I dont feel that bad. ha ha.

I am not so sure, but might be because June-July filers got their NOA2 a bit late of suppose to be actual time frame. Then, many K-visa immediately booked their appointment to catch up this coming holiday. Well, even though, I am crossing my fingers and hoping they will finish their backlogs asap.

Timeline

Just an update if anyone is interested. As I mentioned in a previous post, I requested an expedite to USCIS on 11/12. They gave me a tracking number and promised a response by 11/17. Well, 11/17 is basically over and I have nothing!!!!!!!!:angry::angry:

I called USCIS to follow up today, and while the guy was very nice, I think he was a 16 year old kid just gettin his first job. Couldnt seem to get past the "script". He finally read to me when my application was received - like I didnt know  . So I asked him to look up the expedite number, and he said the expedite number was for me, he had no way to track it - WHAT THE HELL GOOD IS A TRACKING NUMBER FOR ME THAT THEY CANT TRACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:devil::devil: I had not received the mail when I called, so I waited and checked - by the way, he also couldnt tell me how they would respond, he just said normally written, even though they asked for my email and phone number.

So tomorrow letters to to the Director of USCIS and Director of CSC. The next day, to more, and more and more!

I just want a response. If I dont like the response, at least I hope I will be able to see who I need to argue it with.

Sorry, I am venting.
