I bought her a computer Asus EEPC 1000H, small, very portable, plenty of power for everything she needs to do. I ended up buying a separate webcam though cause the one with the computer was really dark most of the time. We don't chat on the computer as often as I would like. But we do text message and talk on the phone most of the time.

Only problem (maybe) is that texting (from your phone) is not so easy to use as evidence - you cant make a print out. With phone, it gets expensive, but if you can talk computer to computer, it is FREE! International texting is expensive also, but with Yahoo you can send Text messages (and keep a log of them) to many countries for free. Skype as a small charge, but better than the phone companies generally.

The camera's seem to be hit or miss. I have an add on I got for about $50, but then I got a new PC and it has one built in. Either of my camera's are darker than the one built into the computer I bought for my fiancee. But dark or not, I am happy to be able to see her.

Forget about my previous message & Reqeust. I found the fax number on a previous posting of yours, but I started checking the USCIS website and found a number to call. I had been writing a letter and was going to send it, but I called to find out what I needed to do. I got right through (Amazing considerint the horror stories I have read), the lady was very kind and helpful, took the information for my request, gave me a confirmation # and said I should have a response by 11/17 if they will accept to expedite my petition.

For those who may not know, the criteria is:

  • Severe financial loss to company or individual
  • Extreme emergent situation
  • Humanitarian situation
  • Nonprofit status of requesting organization in furtherance of the cultural and social interests of the United States
  • Department of Defense of National Interest Situation (Note: Request must come from official United States Government entity and state that delay will be detrimental to our Government)
  • USCIS error
  • Compelling interest of USCIS
They also mentioned on the phone, "Significant and Compelling Reasons" and included medical reasons.

I dont know if my expedite will get approved or not, but considering my situation, I think I have a good chance. I feel better knowing it is in the system and they will respond soon.

For an expedite situation from the service center, is the process the same? Hopefully each step is expedited if all are required. Does anyone know if the process is different?

For your approval, I assume it was expedite approval, but did they provide any additional information on what the next step would be or approximately how long it would take?

Really, THANKS for your post - it gave me the idea to a different approach. Had I not seen your post, I probably would have just sent a letter.

I had to send them a fax cuz they never got back to us...anyways I know u will have to ask for expedite for every single stage of the petition...I don't think NVC will need to be expedited cuz for K1 Visa they are pretty fast anyways but u may wanna call the consulate once your petition gets there and ask them to expedite it...

Btw if u're filing in Cali and in 1 month they don't send u something about your request just send them a fax with cover letter, letter explaining the situation and evidences to that fax number....! Good Luck!!!! I'm so glad I can help others!

I will not beat around the bush here but I tell yah when I came back from seeing my SO last August, shoot! It was very difficult, I hated the month of August, I was stressed, taken to the hospital twice. But then when Septermber rolled along I was ok, why?

1. Coomunication - Always commnunicate with your SO, emails, text, whatever just keep in touch! makes me feel like they are just around the corner.

2. Keep busy, distracted, makes time go fast.

3. STOP checking USCIS, processing times, this WILL KILL YOU!

4. Be strong for you and your SO, be faithful.

5. Keep posting, VJ is a great place to vent and just hang out online.

You will make it my friend, I did, just look at my timeline and you will see what I am talking about.

Take Care all of you GODSPEED and fast approvals and good journey for all of us here!

I assume most people are chatting on-line with their SO, but if your not, I would reccomend it. If your SO has access to a computer also, and a web-cam, Yahoo Messenger, Skype, etc work great. and you can see your SO as well as talk for free. If they dont have a computer - and you have the means, I saw a cheap computer with built in web-cam at COSTCO the other day for about $350 - main purpose is just email and internet, but that is basically what you need.

My Fiancee is currently back in the Philippines, and her hometown is in the provinces, so internet connection is not great. Under this circumstance, Yahoo seems to work better than Skype (less bandwidth I think). I miss her being in Japan where she had a great internet connection and I could see her just about any time of the day.

I guess in terms of communication, I'm kinda lucky. I can talk to him everyday even if I'm in work because I'm allowed to use webcam as well as it's easy to insert chatting while working because work is internet related and most of the time in front of my laptop except if I have meetings or I'm in school. Whenever we can't talk online, we call each other. Hahahaha..... kinda expensive and it cost us a lot, my phone goes up 3200 pesos a month.

Jeez louise, you guys were talkative today! haha. Still waiting....

after all this gibberish about the Sept group being quite, now your going to complain? Some people are never happy :bonk: . Hahaha  .

I am in a really good mood today  - especially after talking to USCIS - how many people can say that? Haha  . I might get depressed again after getting their response, but I have a good feeling. But honestly, I would certainly trade the waiting time for not having a real reason to expedite things. So while it seems like a forever waiting game, count yourselves as lucky. In a few (long) months, you will be together. Good luck to everyone.

Making my days so busy...

My class just started yesterday, and I know it will keeps me so busy in succeeding months. I got bunches of assignments in this class. And at this moment, I am starting my researches. :P I hope this thing will keep me out of my paranoia in waiting game as well as feeling so sad whenever I miss my Bebe ko so much.

Aside from doing my researches for my class, this coming weeks, I will help my Bebe ko to research for references for his hobbies. In this way also, it will put both of our minds out of our petition and waiting game. This week, I am thinking of hanging out too with my college friends.

I've been hanging out here so often lately, and was really entertained by the stories of the members. I might be not hanging out here so often, so guys, visit here once in awhile to make this thread more alive as we all wait for our approval. Share the things that have been happening to you in line with our waiting game, you may never know that it helps some other members here.

Well, it seems there is not so much conversation going this weekend, so I will try to start something for those of us who are bored.

It seems the long, cold, dreary, winter here has already started. More rain today, but snow is probably just around the corner. Anybody worried about their SO adjusting to a new life together? Whether you are coming to the US or they are coming to the US, not only to the culture, the weather, and everything else that will be so different - What do you think will be the biggest adjustment will be for someone coming to the US? What will be your adjustment and theirs?

For me being the one coming to the States I think will be going from a full time job, to not being able to work for until I obtain my EAD and not having a regular source of income coming in. That will be a super big adjustment. I am not quite sure what I am going to do with myself until I am able to find a job.

The biggest adjustment I think for the US citizen is having a person they haven't lived with for that long before, all of a sudden being a part of their life 24/7 and having to financially provide help to support them while they are waiting to be able to find work on their own.

Big changes for both people, but hopefully a smooth transistion.

I am a little worried about not having a full income coming in for three months or however long it takes to get the EAD, I have never had to rely on someone else to look after me after moving out of my parents home when I was 17.

.

It may not be such a big transition for you, Canada and US are not so different (depending on location of course).

Hopefully the income wont be so bad for either of you. I dont know how long it takes to get the EAD, but if it is just a few months, it might be a nice break from work just to be able to have that time together to get used to living together.

I was married previously and supported my ex, so that wont be a transition at all for me. Even living together, I dont expect to be a big issue. We have spent a lot of time together, several times, it was just staying in hotels, (which seems more like a vacation than actual life) but I have had the good fortune to spend about 3 1/2 weeks living with her in an apartment in Japan. I worked daily, but had the weekends and most evenings free. She worked a few days, but was able to take time off so we could just be together.

I have really no concerns for me, but I am a little concerned for her. Leaving her friends and family, even finding a job that she will like here (if she wants to work). Since she has experience already living in another country, I have less concerns for her, as I know she will be able to adjust. I have traveled alot, but I cant really imagine moving to a another country & starting over. Hopefully everyone can be patient and help their SO's through the adjustment period.
