Hey everyone,

I just moved into a new apartment and my husband, who is not here, has received his visa. The purpose of the I-865 is to inform the USCIS of my new address change because I am the sponsor for my husband. Here are my questions: The form asks for my husband's alien number. This is not listed in the passport, or is it? I looked at the passport and couldn't find it anywhere on their. Would I write N/A because this number isn't available? When exactly is the alien number available? Also, I read somewhere that as the sponsor, I was allowed to submit the I-865 per Email. Is that true?

Thanks in advanced for your help.

I think you have put the cart before the horse. Once your husband arrives, then you can file for Adjustment of Status (AOS) to enable him to get a green card. The AOS requires entirely new evidence from you as his sponsor. That is also the time to file for an EAD (work permit) for him. Within 1-2 weeks, you will receive a Notice of Arrival (NOA) which provides his Alien Number for the first time. The USCIS doesn't need to know right away what your new address might be.

I appreciate you taking the time to reply, but you misunderstood my case. I suppose I should have given more information. My husband doesn't need to do AOS. He already is going to have a 2 year conditional permanent resident visa upon entering the US. We filed the I-130, not the I-129. My question is only pertaining to the I-865, regarding my change of address. The only connection to that form and my immigrant husband is the fact that they want to have an Alien Number. I suppose if the number isn't available yet, then an N/A answer would apply at this time. The USCIS gives you 30 days to submit this form. By the time my husband arrives in the US, the 30 days will be up (I moved into my new place on the 19th of August).
