Hi everyone, been a while since I was last here.

The proverbial poo has kinda hit the fan... I'm UK alien with conditional residency status, hubby is the USC. Recently my in-laws purchased a new house, and sold us this one for just the amount left to pay on the mortgage. They said they wanted to keep it in the family, it was really really kind of them.

We also have a baby due within a few weeks, I'm just approaching the end of my 36th week.

Then yesterday my hubby caught an email at work that was accidentally sent to him (his email account accidentally got tied to one of the sales people at his job) saying confidentially that they don't know how much longer they can keep my husband's job going because there's not enough work going because of the economy...talk about really rough timing...

I'm guessing we at least have enough time to have health insurance to cover the birth, but I'm petrified my baby won't be eligible for care because of my status if my husband is made unemployed. I know I won't get any support but honestly, that's the least of my worries right now. I live in Georgia, and I think we would make the application to Peach Care for kids, but when I phoned them up there was no option to talk to anyone and the instructions don't make it that clear if he would not be entitled or not because of me.

I guess as a last resort we could always move back to the UK but I know we have to be there 6 months before being able to use the NHS...no doubt baby will be sick at least a few times and will need immunizations e.t.c

Trying to keep calm right now, will make myself a warm drink and then get started on searching for jobs for my husband to apply for. We have talked about the possibility of moving across states to make sure he secures another job, but would rather stay in Georgia because of his family, I miss mine enough as it is! Plus, he does graphic design...is not exactly the most recession-proof job in the world

The other thing to consider is what to do with this house...I would rent it out but there was a stipulation on the mortgage contract saying we can't rent it for 12 months.

If anyone has any thoughts on this, I would really appreciate it - thanks xxx

Hello..I am sorry that you are going through this...insurance is the LAST thing that you want to worry about while you are pregnant...i found this website for you http://www.peachcare.org/

MY thoughts are that once your child is born in the states that child is a American Citizen SO your child should not have a issue getting this insurance even if you are on a conditional card.

Thanks for the kind reply (L)

That was the website I looked on, was hoping to get more information from the phone number had the same info as the website. This is the bit that confuses me

Eligibility requirements:

* U.S. citizens, certain qualified legal residents, refugees or asylees who reside in Georgia.

* Age 18 and under (eligible until 19th birthday).

* Uninsured.

* Family income less than or equal to 235% of the federal poverty level, $40,000 for a family of 3 and $48,000 for a family of 4.

Do you think they're talking about the child or the parents?

At least if they tell my husband he has to go, they will probably negotiate to wait until after the baby is born so insurance will have to pay up. We have some money in savings so at least we won't end up in debt from the hospital or something.

Thanks again, kind word really helps right now (F)

The baby should qualify because of US citizenship. Make phone calls now to make sure you know what you need to show for eligibility.

Good luck. It is a tough situation.

Thanks everyone!

Yup it's definitely scary but I feel more at ease that at least my baby isn't paying for my choice to come here, everything else we can work around. I am very thankful that we have such a supportive family.

I guess all we can do is be prepared, and try not to let it put a downer on having our baby. Having stage IV endometriosis, I didn't think it was even possible to begin with :D
