Certified copy of birth certificate is necessary. It does not need to be notorized. Notorization is affirmation of the signature and person signing it.

Thanks alot for all you replies, I really appreciated but maybe my question

was confusing, what I mean is when the foreigner must go to the interview does he/she

need the copy certified of the Birth certificate of the american fiance(e)as well? Because

today I got Package 3 but it looks unclear how they mention it.

Thanks again to all who helps me!!!!

I sent my fiancee a total copy of our I-129F packet to provide the consulate at her interview. Your fiance's birth certificate should be in the copy of the I-129F packet he sends you.

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that you are also able to use a Passport if a certified copy of the Birth Certificate is not available. If I remember reading correctly,if this option is taken (passport) then you need to include all pages of the passport. Atleast I hope so, since that is what I used in my packet for Nebraska and was planning on sending to my fiance in Colombia once I receive the NOA2.

Hi Daphne,

I went through Naples in October 2004 and I did have a copy (certified) of my fiance's birth certificate. Certified in this case does not mean "notarized". The birth certificate they MAY ask to see is the one issued by the vital records of the State where your fiance was born. I have it in front of me now: the header reads State of Minnesota Certification of Vital Records. Actually, it is the same one your fiance sent with the original fiance' petition.

It is not clear whether you must have it or not. But if it is not too much of a hassle for you, I would bring it. Unfortunately I don't remember if they ask to see it when I was there! I do remember that a guy here in VJ went to the interview in Naples without it and he got the visa with just minor problems (they were just a little rude).

Good luck on your interview in Naples. THey are a little messy over there but kind of laid back compared to other consulates.

daphne,

Certified does not mean notarized. In the case of government issued documents such as birth certificates it means that the document carries the seal of the issuing government agency thereby demonstrating its authenticity.

Throughout the immigration process photocopies of documents are accepted for submission with the understanding that a USCIS or DoS officer may ask to inspect the original at any time to verify the photocopy. The visa interview is one face-to-face opportunity for such a verification to take place and it is common for consular officers to spot check documents. Be prepared.
