The visa interview is over and approved!! Can pick up the passport with visa tomorrow at 3-4 p.m at VFS office.

The KL consulate does the interview in 2 parts. Morning for submitting documents and afternoon for the actual interview.

8.45 a.m Arrived at the embassy gate and security clearance. About 3-4 people were in line, mostly for visitor visas.

8.50 a.m Entered the building, got a number (the second person for IV). The waiting room is almost full, they have already interviewed about 50+ non immigrant visa applications!

9.30 a.m The first IV applicant was called (Yeah, I would be next !)

9.50 a.m My number was called by Mr Saravanan at window 8. Submitted all the documents and paid the $400 visa application fee (we didn't pay fees to NVC because we got expedited). Was told to go back there at 1.30 p.m for the actual interview.

10.00 a.m Got out of the embassy.

Then I walked 15 minutes back to the train station. Had 3 hours to kill at the mall next to the train station!

1.00 p.m Too hot and lazy to walk, took a cab to go back to the embassy.

1.05 p.m Arrived at the embassy. Too early, guard said he will let me in at 1.15 p.m.

1.15 p.m Security clearance and entered the building. Could see many embassy stuffs got back from lunch break. I was the only person at the waiting area! A man sat at the counter and typed something on the computer.

1.20 p.m My number was called and the interview began.

First was the biometrics, took an oath and then signed DS-230 part 2.

MO looked at the list of countries visited in the past 10 years.

MO: You were in US for 11 months ?

Yes, I extended the 6 months stay.

MO: Do you have proof you filed an extension?

Showed him NOA from USCIS regarding the extension application. Yes, I kept that 8 years old NOA :-)

MO: Was the application for extension approved?

I left before further reply.

MO: Who you were staying with?

MO: Why did you stay so long?

Officer flipped through old passport and stamped "Canceled without prejudice" on the 10 years B2 visitor visa.

MO: Do you have the other old passport that has your previous B2 visa?

I lost that passport.

MO: Who is Todd xxx?

My husband.

MO: How did you meet? When?

MO: When was the first time both of you met?

MO: When were you married?

MO: Did he come to Malaysia prior to your marriage in 2005? How long did he stay?

MO: Did he come again after that? How long did he stay?

He came in 2004. He tried to find a job as we planned to get married. He stayed 6 months before we were married. Actually, longer than six months because he then found a job and stayed after we were married.

MO: So, he did find a job? What kind of job did he find? How much he was paid?

Looking at the marriage certificates.

MO: Is this your first marriage?

MO: His first marriage too?

MO: How long did he live here in Malaysia?

MO: In Melaka? That's your hometown? Your family there?

MO: When did he go back? Why?

Oct 2006, his father had recurring cancer.

Q: So, you would like to live in the US?

I have to follow my husband, he doesn't want to return here.

Q: But, you said you stayed 11 months last time because you liked it there.

But, that was not IL.

Q: He is from IL?

Looking at the DS-230 form and smiled.

Q: You were in VA last time?

Q: What does he do (for a living)?

Looking at the forms

Q: When did he start his current job? Nov 2007?

MO: There is no other dependent? Only you and him? You have no children ?

Counting his fingers, looked at the tax transcript and employment letter x, I saw him ticked at the box next to "meet the requirements of section 213A" on I-864 and wrote down his name. I could see it starts with a J, Jimmy or Jerry.:-)

Flipping through the old passport again.

Q: You have a visitor visa in 2004 but never use it ?

Yes, my husband's parents invited me to visit, but had to cancel the plan because MIL had recurring cancer.

Q: Both his parents had cancers?

Looking at Police certificate.

MO: So, you have only lived in Malaysia and US ?

MO: Do you have any evidences of relationship that you can show me? Photos? Cards?

(Mr Saravanan didn't ask for evidences of bona fide marriage this morning)

MO Read one of the Valentine's cards. Looking at the photos.

MO: So, this is him?

Looking at a group photo.

MO: Are they your family?

No, they are church friends.

MO: What kind of church is that? Christian church?

MO: Well, everything looks alright. You take a seat and wait to be called again.

Sat down, in less than 1 minute, saw Mr Saravanan at window 7, my number was called again within seconds.

Mr Saravanan tried to pull my leg, he asked with a Malaysian slang "Did your visa approve or not?"

Then, he smiled and gave me the instruction card for picking up passport and visa.

The friendly woman guard asked me on my way out: you the only person this afternoon? I have no idea where was this guy who was supposed to be in front of me. I was the only person at the waiting room !!
