On the I-485 form choices UNDER Part 2. Application Type. (Check one)., I am applying for an adjustment to permanent resident status because: The choice I should choose I am not sure of…? There is nothing for married on a tourist visa while in the U.S.A.! Only thing close is a box labeled Other basis of eligibility. Explain. Can that be marked and accompanied by a brief explanation such as married to a U.S. Citizen currently applying for an adjustment of status…?

Any help greatly appreciated

If you are adjusting from a tourist visa from within the USA, you have to concurrently file an I-130 petition. SO, on the I-485 you mark box A.

Box A states:

"an immigrant petition giving me an immediately available immigrant visa number has been

approved. (Attach a copy of the approval notice, or a relative, special immigrant juvenile or

special immigrant military visa petition filed with this application that will give you an

immediately available visa number, if approved.)"

The I-130 is your relative petition that is being filed with your I-485
