It was hard to make an appointment with My Tam. To compensate, My Tam affirmed: "I accept to have a straightforward conversation containing sincere answers."

Audiences always wait for my performance.

R: Yet releasing CDs, live shows and tours nationwide as well as abroad. But the attraction of the name My Tam during 2005 was decreased apparently in comparison with the time of "Yesterday & Now". It seem this is a sign of a Star getting down?

MT: Why making noise more? A few scandals could help being known. I admit I was not so successful last year but not a problem as I know how to regulate my works. The chain of "The Power of Dreams" live shows were made to target audiences, not to be "hot". The releasing of CD on 30/04 and 01/05 was a bit hurry before it was PR well. I was pushed by fans, lots of tourings, being stressed and overworked. I think it was a wrong time to release the CD.

R: Before being a top, you did not make any big PR but every songs you did was a hit. Is it because you tour too much to have enough time for creativeness? The CD "Hoang Hon Thuc Giac" got no hit. Live shows were free. Being free is being low quality?

MT: Can't blame on me since there are several live TV music shows, TV shows, commercials... I did try to cut down but the frequence was still dense. There were so many requests and I couldnot please all. Some songs I thought to be a hit but they were not. The special thing I did during the 2 months was I delivered to fans a new and exciting image: The atmosphere of rock. I had my own reason to offer my fans free tickets. With my name, there wouldn't be anyone to my show with entrance of 10K or 20K đồng?

I’m not scared of my reputation falling

R: ***You name is still at the peak, but your image in the stage is off-key sometimes??

MT: I believe the audiences always wait for my performing. Showing up too much, I’m still just My Tam, and My Tam’s always sing the old songs…but people want to know what’s she going to wear to day or how her hair is going to be…that’s also an expectation.

R: ***But your audiences couldn’t keep waiting to see what you are going to wear and what style your hair looks like if you won’t issue a product which shakes the music market. For the next album, are you still in that rush???

MT: If I’m in hurry, my album would come out before the New Year Days. This time, I’m cool and more careful. I’m about to issue one VCD and CD, they’re concerted each other with a bold rock style. I love to listen to rock music, in which I use to refresh myself.

R: ***Publishing your album without Thai Huan’s management, are you confident in yourself??

MT: I couldn’t reject that Huan is skillful and professional, but he’s not the best. I have my family, my friends instead of Huan, he’s still help me out since our contract was over. I agreed to let him go, it meant I’ve already prepared for myself, I couldn’t just sitting there and regret. I think simply that “work hard, grasp opportunities, don’t need to seek for such perfection”. I came to music without prospect, being famous naturally, but my life is still ordinary. People please don’t impose me that I’m scaring of my fame falling, I aren’t scared ‘cause I have a lot of things to do. Being a waitress I still could become well-known, if I have a strong will and work hard.

R: ***How come in the last year, you have an un necessary argument with HQH?

MT: I’ve never swore, but today I swear that I’ve ever mention such a work “HQH”, just magazine’s and HQH’s self - cricitism.

R: ***Before, your name was always put beside THanh Thao ‘s , and now beside HQH. What are you thinking about this?

MT: Maybe they deem me hot, so everyone want to be my side. Actually, I feel so unset and uncomfortable. They have their works to unravel, why they take my name up and talk about it troublesomely all day long, for what???

R: ***Are you scared of the 2 Ho (HQH & Ho Ngoc Ha) with the complementariry of love behind ( Duc Tri & Ha Dung) will be your competitor who can “knock out” you in the not too distant future???

MT: There’s no redoubtable competitor for me but myself. I struggle with myself is tired enough. Sometime, I feel so lazy and tired, I just want to lay down, rest and hang out with friends, but I couldn’t, I have to get up and work. Working round the clock is one of my quality.

R: At the same time, it is an example of an ambitious woman?

MT: I like working, not ambitious. I don’t feel good when I am sitting and doing nothing. There were many sleepless nights when I woke up and wrote down all of my thoughts. Sometimes, I think that my plans are perfect and I will be successful at completing them. But in the end I could not.

R: Are musical awards in your plans? How do you feel when the name, My Tam, was not announced in many of the awards?

MT: It is not a problem. I still feel happy. It doesn’t matter if I receive them. Before I was young and looked forward to winning because I would feel rejoiced afterward. Nowadays, I have grown up and become more matured with my thinking; therefore, I don’t put much weight on winning anymore. My philosophy is that working and working. I have received almost all of the awards. That is enough. I should not receive anymore.

R: In the relationship with your colleagues in the music industry, you are considered “the lone star?”

MT: Many times I feel tired after getting back from work. I feel a little bit sad but it is not to the point of loneliness. From the past to present, there is nothing making me sadder than my intimate relationship. Arguing with my lover is the time that makes me saddest and loneliest. In life, loneliness doesn’t make me sad because I have many friends. I can go out with them any time. It does not have to be with my colleagues in the music industry.

R: But “Trading people have their friends; selling people also have their partners”. It is not good if you spend time alone during many days of long tours?

MT: I talk to my colleagues when I meet them. If I don’t know them, I don’t know what to say to them. I only know saying “hello” because it is not my characteristic to run to them and start conversations. I think when you meet your colleagues, saying “hello” and smiling are enough. It is not necessary to spend time with each other. Of course I have some friends in the music industry, DVH, Quang Dung, and Hong Ngoc. Any event has them, I sit with them.

R: Nowadays, you have become much more matured. What has made you to change?

MT: Life, contacts in life and knowing to look, to listen, and to read have changed me. Seeing other people doing things wrong, I learn the lessons from them. Before, seeing new people, I did not say “hello”. Nowadays, I know to say “hello” when I see them. I start devoting my time reading books in order to know how to converse and conduct myself in life. I know what is the good thing to do and also know how to forgive. Involving in many problems also has changed me.

R: In your heart, you like the present My Tam who is matured to the point of being too careful.

Defensive has become one of your traits, or the past Tam who is spontaneous, carefree and live with the instinct?

MT: I like the present My Tam which is better. Remaining unintelligent will let others step on you. My true self, lively and spontaneous, will not change. Only my closed friends know my true self. When I step outside, of course I have to be defensive.

R: ***What are you thinking when one of your colleague said “ My Tam is always mop her lips after eating on the sly”. People part with My Tam all in silent and leave peacefully, even though they’re displeased at you????

MT: People make up a very good story!!! Do they know what’s the inside problems? For those people who just make a wild guess or concoct a story purposely , I think they shouldn’t do that. Why must they impose me for things like that???

R: ***How about the doubt : My Tam is really gullible or just pretending? Immature or not?? Is this possible to be called “artistic…foolish” of a music star???

MT: I haven’t do any thing with that artistic. Foolishness is really foolish, not pretending…no one take one’s cleverness to be foolishness. If can be clever, I’ll be extremely clever, and if I’m that clever…I won’t let those recent scandal happened. Even my guffaws, people said it’s annoying, it’s too noisy and over-optimistic. The only thing I muss be blamed is too frank and straightforward, but being a singer I’ve had to keep back too much. It’s easy to move a mountain but hard to change one’s character. Silence is difficult to learn, but I’ve known it for 4-5 years near. Still, scandal keep coming to me, but it would become things of the past .

R: ***How come?

MT: I’ve realized whom I’m living and singing for. They’re my relatives, my audiences – who really love and cherish me, but is not wherever I would sing. I know what I must do and trying to do, I’d not to pay any attention for unnecessary things, not mention, won’t be affected to things which’s not relate to me…I just want to concentrate in my works and limiter to touch with reporters

R: ***Facing the pressure from public opinion, thinking about period you were a regular person, live for yourself and doing anything you want to do without people’s curiousness. Do you feel regret???

MT: -- I’m vexed after hearing that but I don’t care about it. Since they dislike me, they will have thousands of making up stories about me, moreover, I’m a star!!!

R: ***With the pressure of works and scandals…your life is less of happiness, less of pink ????

MT: The world is huge and a bunch of good things….but I’m small, therefore I’m not pessimistic and weary. The environment I’m living in is not that “pink”, but it’s just a small environment, just “one rotten apple spoils the barrel”. But every where is the same, so it’s acceptable. I just concern about my health right now. That’s why my friends and my family always pray for me.

R: * Being stressed, you look mature than your age?

MT: I was born with 2 wrinkles on my cheek and I know I will always look mature than my age. Pressure from work also makes me more mature. I am happy even I look mature as long as I look beautiful.

To love is to think of family and children

R: * Would you please disclose a little bit about your current lover?

MT: Sorry but please don't ask me about this subject. I swear to myself that I will never mention personal love-affair to public.

R: * That's why My Tam is named "Doll of no love"?

MT: To be with me will understand how much I love.

R: * But love is the most difficult thing to hide?

MT: What if I can hide?

R: * You must hide because at your position, you hardly get a true love?

MT: Hard but not impossible. I will have a love worth it. I don't believe it there is no true love. I will have true love, since I love sincerely, especially I don't come as a singer My Tam.

R: * But how will you know if a man comes to you just becasue you are famous singer My Tam?

MT: I don't think I am so unlucky that much.

R: * Did you know there are men love you... but can only dream about you?

MT: I think there are but I don't know who he is. There are words on web sites and with a woman's afflatus I can feel that. He fears that I will not respond. In fact, I am responsive. Talk to me and will understand me.

R: * Those men who come to you will also come to others?

MT: That is out of my control. I don't pay attention to those. It is not I say this now because I am rich. I am not a material person. I also had beautiful love when I was a student.

Từ Pháp, đạo diễn Việt Linh vừa cho biết tạp chí Match du Monde (Pháp) có đăng hình ca sĩ Mỹ Tâm lên bìa báo, với tít: Mỹ Tâm, ngôi sao nhạc rock' n' roll thế hệ mới của Việt Nam .

Ca sĩ Mỹ Tâm, tên đầy đủ là Phan Thị Mỹ Tâm, sinh ngày 16.1.1981 tại Đà Nẵng, là con út trong gia đình gồm bố, mẹ và tám anh chị em.

Cô tốt nghiệp Thủ khoa trung cấp chính quy 4 năm khoa thanh nhạc Nhạc viện Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh (1997-2001). Năm mười sáu tuổi, Mỹ Tâm đã giành giải nhất đơn ca toàn thành, rồi nối tiếp là Huy chương vàng Giọng hát hay Xuân 1997. Vào hệ Trung cấp Nhạc viện, khoa Thanh nhạc, Tâm được học trực tiếp với thầy Quốc Trụ, một giảng viên uy tín. Quãng thời gian 1997 - 1998, Tâm tham gia liên tiếp những hội diễn văn nghệ, các cuộc thi giọng hát hay của quận, của thành phố. Tháng 4.1998, Tâm đoạt giải nhất gần như đồng thời ở hai hội thi đơn ca quận Tân Bình và quận 6. Tháng 11 năm ấy, giải nhất Giọng ca vàng báo Mực Tím lại đến với Tâm.

Tháng 1.1999, Mỹ Tâm trở thành ca sĩ độc quyền của Vafaco. Bản thu âm đầu tiên của Tâm được thực hiện dưới sự chỉ đạo của nhạc sĩ Nguyễn Hà. Ca khúc Nhé anh vừa là bài tập thu thanh đầu đời vừa là bài hát khắc dấu một Mỹ Tâm dồi dào ấn tượng, giàu nội lực và phong phú về sức bật. Nhạc sĩ Nguyễn Hà đã hướng dẫn Tâm nhiều nguyên tắc quan trọng trong chuyên môn, đã hình thành ý thức chuyên nghiệp cho cô một cách hiệu quả.

Giữa năm 2000, cô hết hợp đồng làm việc với Vafaco. Cũng trong thời điểm này, Tâm đã viết ca khúc đầu tay của mình, đặt tên là Mãi yêu. Quá trình sáng tác có sự trợ lực của nhạc sĩ Nguyễn Quang, chỉ huy ban nhạc Trung tâm ca nhạc nhẹ. Tâm đã đem bài hát này, cùng với I love you (cover lại ca khúc Celine Dion) vào phần thi của mình trong Liên hoan giọng ca vàng châu Á (Thượng Hải, Trung Quốc) và cô đã đoạt Huy chương đồng.

Tháng 6.2001, Tâm tốt nghiệp Trung cấp Nhạc viện TP.HCM với số điểm thủ khoa. Và công chúng trong và ngoài nước đã bắt đầu nhắc nhiều đến To love you more, Nhé anh, Yêu dại khờ, Mãi yêu và đặc biệt là Tóc nâu môi trầm như những thành công của riêng Tâm.
