I hate revising by reading through the book of 96 questions, I find it boring. Does anyone know of any good historically acurate movies about American history? I am looking for something which would help with the civics test.

I know the National Treasure movies have some good facts in.

Don't be an idiot...you can learn lots of things in movies, but that test you need to learn from the flash cards they give you at the biometrics appt or from the USCIS website.

Agree, fun to learn about history with visual audio aids, but if you want your citizenship, memorized those 96 questions and answers

Went over those 96 questions and answers twice in the four hour drive over there, she did very well. You give the USCIS whatever they want and one of them is knowing the answers to those 96 questions.

Idiot was unkind, I prefer to be called a slacker that is finding an easier way to do a task, felt an obligation to my wife to answer all 96 questions just like she had to learn them. We played part II of the given CD and had a contest whom could come up with the answer first, before the speaker would give it, made a game of it, and had fun. Then reading the questions and answers, quietly that focuses all of your attention for superior retention. Actually, we only spent about a total of four hours on those 96 questions and it helped with the pure boredom of driving. Made the trip go a lot quicker.

Schoolhouse Rock!

Google it. It's a series of cartoons produced in the 1970s to educate children, using catchy songs. The "I'm Just a Bill" one is particularly memorable. There are several others that explain US Civics concepts, including many of the concepts tested on the exam. They're available on DVD.

But while these explain many general concepts that are tested on the exam, I don't know of any movie that's going to teach the names of the original 13 colonies. If your goal is to pass the exam, there's no substitute for studying the actual questions they'll ask. If your goal is to learn about the country that will soon be your country of citizenship, this and some of the other suggestions are probably good.

You might not be an idiot. But to think that you can learn everything from just watching a bunch of Americana movies isn't the way to go. So, if you don't study the actual questions they will ask, then you're an idiot.

I never mentioned anything about NOT learning the 96 questions. I said I did not like doing it. I simply created a fun post asking for people to submit movies which could add supplemental info to help with the process.

Instead I have people insulting me. I have helped a lot of people on this board over the last 4-5 years, but now I am done with it.

Excuse me Richie, I'm not trying to insult you - it was a response to how you proposed to learn the questions to this test. You wrote: I hate revising by reading through the book of 96 questions, I find it boring. Does anyone know of any good historically acurate movies about American history? I am looking for something which would help with the civics test. The only way you can accurately review for this exam is to read the book. Anything else is just fluff. I'm a poli-sci major with a Masters in Public Administration and when my hubby was studying for his citizenship test, even I had a few questions that I had to take a moment to review again.

You want to pass this test, read the study guide. You want to become more proficient at all things American, read some American History Books. The movies are actually factually incorrect most times....elaborated upon and embellished to the point of lunacy. Look up some of your favorite historical movies on the IMDB.com and then look at the goofs...many things will be brought to light as being falsehoods.

Do yourself a favor - learn those 96 questions backwards and forwards as they hold the key to your chance at citizenship - in essence, they are your National Treasure!

Hello..

The test is not really bad at all.. but I would say probably just lucky me..

I did not watch any movies to review for this test.. I just go to the link below and tried to answer it everytime I surfed the net.. (Naturalization Self Test)

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...0004718190aRCRD

Believe me, you dont really have to memorize, but this practice will help you remember quickly.. I did flash cards as well, when I am on break or before I go to bed.. This might find you boring but this helped me a lot... Instead of reading Forums in VJ, just read the flashcard on line or take the Naturalization Self Test. 15 minutes a day will not hurt you to read all this...

Just be patient.. Being stress sometimes tends to make forget what you read.. So relax..

The officer just asked me 5 questions..

1st President

Color of the Flag

What is Amendment

Independence day

Meaning of the stars in the flag..

Goodluck and be patient..
