Opening a business in your SO's country

Sorry to hear that this is becoming a headache for you, but Liberia is worse! All car prices are inflated over there because people try to make up for the cost of shipping them over. I saw a 1996 Corolla for $6,000 USD and that was considered 'cheap' over there. I'll ask the hubby about Guinea since he is pretty familiar with the way things work there.

oooookaaaaaaaaaay,

this is what I was thinking. since most SO are true hustlers. has anyone ever thought about purchasing snacks (hostess cakes, moon pies or the like) at wholesale, shipping them over seas and having the SO sell them. I was checking on some thangs and came across this wholesale candy site and the prices are reasonable...I think.

anyway, just wanted to put it out there as food for thought.

Would not work for us....I don't want to ship stuff over and over again when they run out. I want him to do whatever he has to do and I am too busy here to buy and worry about shipping and resupplying. That would drive me insane. Shipping will take up most if not all the profits and I want him to be totally self sufficient.

The latest idea we have is a stationary store, like a Kinkos, with copier, fax, and office supplies. All under one roof. I know of only one fax business in

the entire capital of S/L. He can get the supplies there without shipping.

Interesting perspective about marketing over there I discovered. While here, as a self employed business professional, you want to separate and distinguish yourself from your competition and market yourself to stand out, in S/L the entire business owners of lets say an office supply store would all meet on a regular basis and be in agreement of one and the same price.on their products. No one has a sale unless they all do. If one has a rough time and his income is down, he will respectfully approach the rest of the group and ask for permission to undersell the others. All is good if the group agrees it should be granted.

If one goes against the rest he may be on his own from then on.

Unless someone has enough money to do as he pleases on his own, it is more beneficial to abide by the group's motto whatever it may be.

Interesting way of doing business, have to say I like it though. More of a "community feel" to it, not everyone out for themselves.

I will check out the web site but for the time being have no time to count calories, cook and shop for funky foods.

Nutrasystem is easy and later when I have time I will be able to incorporate the " healthy lifestyle blah blah ...right now I am on overload.

I want to lose about 20 #, 30 # at the most. My problem is portion control. Not much will power there.......

I lost 40 on Jenny Craig before.

I was more on the line of shipping there in bulk, after the SO made a profit, he/she would then be able to cover the costs of reshipping/restocking. Not having the USC doing all the paper/foot work. I also know that it was going to take some time to see any real profit margin...but as I stated, it was just a thought ...nexxxt

OK. Back to the car. Looking to have a transport business by next week. Car is coming from Conakry, we don't know which one yet. But S/L cars were too high and shipping too expensive from here or Europe. So we will decide on what kind of car in a few days.
