My family are the biggest racists I have ever seen in my life. So when I married a Mexican, you can imagine how that went down. When I say how hard this process is, I always get that look, you know the one "You did this to yourself, so don't talk about it to me" look. Does anyone else have a family like this?

Yikes. Well, hopefully, when they get to know him, they'll begin to rethink their prejudices.

We have been together 5 years... unfortunately they don't have any intention of wanting to know him more...

It's not so much my family, but former friends did the same thing... You married an Arab? and then brought the on coming of insults, racial slurs,etc.... I know friends are not really the same as family and some might argue it's easier to drop friends than your family, but my friends were like my family and it was terribly hard... I'm not sure what advice to give you, but I think in my case, I had to put my foot down. I told them straight to their face how hurtful it was and how I didn't want to associate with people who wouldn't give someone a chance solely because of where they came from or personal prejudices. I'm so sorry that you are going through this and I hope that you have a strong support system outside of the family members who are doing this to you. But in the long run, the best revenge is to be happy - There is no bigger payback then a happy healthy marriage

My family is actually fine with my decision. However, I know damn well that if I had picked a Mexican/Hispanic husband, there would not be happy times. :\ Yeah kinda messed up but that's how my family is. Happy Happy with every race, oh cept those 'dirty Mexicans' -_-.

God, I'm so sorry. I can't even imagine.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You know what's funny that even though latinos are so discriminated here in the States, many of them are racists themselves. I know a lot of them who are not very accepting of black people even if they're from the same country. How do you like them apples? Pretty messed up huh?

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Yeah you don't have to be white to be a racist. Some people can't seem to grasp that idea.

My parents have always said they didn't care what color or race the person I'd marry is as long as he is a good choice for me. My grandmother(Scottish, English) married an Italian and for that her parents did not attend her wedding.

I do know people in mixed marriages that started off on very bad terms with the in laws but after awhile things softened and changed dramatically. Keep hope about that. One couple I know, he is black and she is white, and her family was very racist and even considered a hit man to get rid of her then fiance. After the marriage and after the first baby was born, they started changing and now they get along very well and love him. It was a long process, years and years, but now that is all in the distant past.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

WHAT? Seriously? that is crazy... I know that my family is racist, but I would never imagine them doing that. I am sorry that your friend had to go through that.
