I assume "gazelle" refers to the shape and not the ingredient.

That all looks amazing.

Wait a minute..."dog," like a hotdog??

That's not just a MENA thing, it's a southern thing too.. My mother's family downs that stuff and I have tried and tried and no matter what I can't stomach it!! :dead:

Oh that reminds me, Wadi has this tradition of drinking buttermilk during Ramadan.

I think it's pretty gross too.

He's not even a milk drinker usually, and he never drinks buttermilk, only during Ramadan. I was surprised to find out that it's actually lower in calories and fat than regular milk!

Maybe if it was just a little sweeter or something I could get it down... or I dunno if it's the thickness or something..... But I guess adding sugar isn't going to give me those low cal benefits ... Never win

I like to use buttermilk when I make chicken fried steak. Whatever is leftover I use in my mashed potatoes too. I couldn't drink it by itself though.

As for milk and dates during Ramadan, I don't like the taste of milk and I'm lactose intolerant anyway. I tried soy milk, but it tastes bad too and still makes me feel upset to my stomach because of that. Sometimes I brave a very small glass of milk if it is going with fresh baked cookies, but that is worth a tummy ache and the cookies cover the taste of the milk.

Me too and I agree.. frying things, pancakes, mashed potatoes, and even some sweets/cakes it does well in, but drinking that stuff straight.. *vomit face*

My dad hated buttermilk until he hit his 40s, and then suddenly he loved it. I still hate it.

A kid asked my 7th-grade science teacher if it could spoil, and she replied no, that it already was spoiled. That about sums it up for me.

I agree in marinades, or really anything that you will cook! You can't taste the buttermilk so I could do it .. but drinking! HELL NO! And even more HELL NO is eating the "butter" that is on top! OMG the smell! I donnow why my daughter likes it! But actually the buttermilk in the US smells better then the ones here since the pasterization (sp?) takes away alot of the smell! And really I am ready for summer to be over ... so we won't have anymore *bad milk* incidents .... and I don't have to boil the milk 3x! Too much work!

BTW does anyone like kefir here?
