Hello Everyone,

I'm hoping that someone can give us some advice. My fiancee had her interview on March 3rd and everything went fine but we had to wait for the document verification. My fiancee's registry of birth document had a mistake in her name which meant that she needed 2 document verifications...one with her real name and then one with the mistake.

Her first document verification came back from the NSO on April 19 and that was fine. Next, the embassy sent the 2nd document verification to the NSO for this name with the mistake and we are still waiting for a response from the NSO...it's been over 4 months for this 2nd doc. verification. The embassy sent another request for this doc. verification on June 17 and then they sent another request on August 8. After all this time and 3 requests for this doc. verification, we are still waiting for the NSO to finish this doc. verification.

My Senator sent a congressional inquiry last week to the embassy to see what's taking so long, but Miss Grace said they will probably get the same answer I get every week...still waiting for the doc. verification. My fiancee never used this name with the mistake and she actually had a lawyer change the mistake on the registry of births document in 2002. I'm starting to wonder if the NSO can't find any record of this name with the mistake and therefore can't complete the doc. verification until they verify that it's a real name. I'm not sure why else this would be taking so long. Even Miss Grace admits this is a rare case that is taking way too long for the doc. verification. I've tried to stay patient and trust that God will take care of everything, which I'm sure he will, but I just wonder if there is more that we can do to get some answers. Is there anyone we can contact at the NSO to find out what's happening with our doc. verification. I've questioned over and over to MIss Grace why someone from the embassy can't just call the NSO and find out why this is taking so long. Maybe the answer is simple and easy, but we're just not getting any answers and it seems that the embassy acts like they're at the mercy of the NSO and can't do anything about it. Has anyone else come across a situation like this and is there anything we can do besides waiting and waiting. Does anyone know, if the NSO can't find a record of the name they're given, what do they do? So many questions, so few answers. I'd appreciate any suggestions people can give us. We're willing to try about anything now just to get some answers and clarity as to why this is taking so long. Thank you and good luck to everyone in their own visa journey.

Hi, i'm sorry that you have to wait that long for the visa to be released. I am not an expert on this but I think if there's an error in the birth certificate that document (with error) only needs annotation to state the corrected name. Maybe the correct process was not done in NSO that's why they have to verify three documents. Anyway good luck and hopefully you'll be able to resolve this.

Sorry to hear about your situation but don't lose hope.

I have a friend ( same City where I came from ) who was interviewed a day after me but her visa was only issued 5 months after and she arrived here in FL last February. Thats 5 months wait from September to February. The problem was her surname which is the same with the surname of the head of a terrorist group in the Philippines so the embassy had to wait for several clearances from a number of arab countries making sure that she is not related to this wanted person.

The fiance, now her husband wrote to his Congressman and Senator but they couldn't do anything because it was a matter of security.

Hang in there and be patient. Sooner or later she will be cleared.

Keep praying.

I'm wondering if I'm likely to have the same problem.

Did you or your wife try going to the NSO in person? You could start with the local office and then go to Manila.

My wife corrected her birth certificate just last year. When I obtained a copy of her birth certficate online, NSO still only provided me with the old uncorrected one, so I'm a bit worried about that.

I am really sorry to hear about this... Just keep praying... I wish I can give you an answer but just like you I am looking for some advice regarding this matter...

First, I want to share my worries: There's a one letter clerical error on my BC, when I applied for passport years ago I attached affidavit of discrepancy and my mom was with me back then, to make the story short I have my correct surname on my passport... (it was just a one letter clerical error because my dad's surname was correct while mine has an error).

I have a new affidavit of discrepancy now to support my BC for my upcoming interview. I am still waiting for NOA2 and it might be just around the corner.

My questions are: Will I have the same problem? I want to ask about the error on your fiancee's Birth Record, was it also one letter clerical error?

Although my BC is in the process to be annotated, I still have to wait probably 3 more months according to LCR. So meaning I will still be bringing my old NSO Birth Certificate... Will this cause me problems? And how to avoid it?

I got worried after reading your post... Maybe someone can read my post here and can bring up some advice also. Thanks.

Any inputs will be appreciated.

im worried about it too..i also have an annotated bc..although i was able to procure a copy last June with the corrections(annotated and barcoded) it still makes me nervous..my fiance called usem last week and grace was kind enough to inform my fiance regarding that said bc..i hope that they looked at it enough to find that it was already corrected..it was enough to cause me sleepless nights..nso can be so stupid sometimes i just wish that when a name is corrected and annotated that they will encode it on their database asap..thats the reason why we pay them!!!

i will have my interview tomorrow and im keeping my fingers crossed that it wont become a big issue... :crying::crying:

Marie, goodluck on your interview... You don't have to worry, once your BC is barcoded they'll surely have it on their system.

Ohhh it just makes me worry that mine will be annotated 3 months from now (according to LCR) and I don't think I can have a new copy (annotated and barcoded) in time for my interview, I AM WORRIED...

Regarding the topic, they said the problem was with the Document Verification (because of the confusion caused by the wrong Birth Registry), I am super worried I might have the same problem.. I AM SUPER WORRIED, I hope anyone can share something here to make me feel good now...

im not so sure about this but did the lawyer submitted the finality to the NSO?i had my bc corrected too..what i did was filed a petition to the LCR(local civil registry)..then after the LCR approved my change name petition i sent the finality/approved petition to the NSO..after receiving it the NSO sent me an "action taken by CRG" paper(i dont what they call it) or the finality..even if you had your bc corrected at LCR you still have to inform the NSO so they can change/encode the corrected name in their database..

thank you cloe..naku nawiwindang na nga ako kaiisip kc last time n kumuha ako my barcode at BREN na b4 kc wala..sn nmn wl problems bukas..

This is not actually related to USEM interviews but let me share my experience with annotation of birth certificate. Actually it's my sister's BC but I was the one who handled the last part of the process after the Civil Registrar in Vigan, Ilocos Sur had forwarded the documents for the annotation of her birth certificate to NSO East Ave. I don't think it will take 3 mos for the BC to be annotated because in the case of my sister a month after NSO Vigan forwarded the documents, I went to NSO East Ave. and applied for a copy of the annotated BC (there's a separate area for BC annotation). I only gave them a copy of the certificate of finality (from Court) then I told them that the other documents were sent by NSO Vigan through courier. After a week, I received the annotated BC. I think as long as it is already annotated then there should not be any problem.

Hi. I'm new here. I wanted to share our current problem with my fiance's visa. His interview with the Embassy was on June 16, 2008. After the interview, they took his passport and he was told to just wait for delivery. Now, 11 weeks, numerous e-mail inquiries, and three telephone calls later, there is still no definitive answer as to why his visa has not been issued. I never got any response. All the helpline could tell me was that it is pending document verification.

We have a son together so there is definitely no question of a bonafide relationship. I was in the Philippines twice last year so that meets the meeting within two years requirement. He has no problems on his birth certificate. His NBI clearance shows no record. He has never been married before and we have the CENOMAR to prove it. We've obtained duplicates of these documents in a matter of days and I received them here in the US 1 1/2 weeks after he mailed them to me. How do you guys even know the dates that the Embassy sent out for the document verification?

I've contacted both of New Jersey's Senators and the Congressman representing my district. Sen. Lautenberg's office told me that they, amazingly enough, actually got an e-mail response from the Embassy saying that they were trying to obtain proof that he has never been married before. I requested his CENOMAR online from NSO. It was delivered to his house in Manila within days. So how is it that the Embassy can't get such confirmation in 11 weeks? I'm so frustrated.
