Hello fellow VJers.

I am trying to handle I-693 to adjust my status from K1 to permanent resident.

Since the civil surgeons in my area are totally out of their mind  , I decided to ask Dr. L.E. Arnold in Texas to transcribe my vaccination record as suggested on some topics. (Civil surgeons in my area say that I have to do the entire medical exam again..... Craziness!) Anyway, I am confused with new vaccination requirement. Since I am 25 year old female, the receptionist at Dr. Arnold's office told me that I have to have a series of HPV vaccination. However, my medical was done on July 14, 2008 and two USCIS officers told me that I do not have to comply with the new vaccination requirement since I had my medical exam done during a 30 day grace period (The new requirement was imposed on July 1st and there is a 30-day grace period.) I tried to explain this to Dr. Arnold's receptionist, but she told me that they will mark the box "Applicant does not meet immunization requirement" if I do not take HPV........

So, my question is what happens if they check that I do not meet immunization requirement?

Will my application denied?

Please help me...

There is no civil surgeon who really understands what is going on with this new regulation.

Thanks

Nao

Hi im 26 years old and I still had the HPV shot and my medical was done on march 2008 in my home country. I guess try to call more or find another CIVIL surgeon in your area. THat's what I did I called almost everyone that is within my zip code. And them checking the box that you do not meet immunization requirement doesnt look so good. My suggestion is to try and find another civil surgeon in your area or another city next to you. Good luck

Why don't you call the USCIS to see if you can luck out and get a knowledgeable customer service rep. I believe you are correct, the new vaccine requirements are for people who had their medical AFTER 08/01/08. Anyone who had their medical done before that date does not need the new vaccines they require.

You have 3 choices:

-let Dr Arnold mark it as incomplete

-get the shots (You don't need to finish the series, just need to start it and send them proof and they will mark it as done)

-look for another civil surgeon and pay him whatever to do it

choice #1 probably isn't wise since the CIS employee most likely won't realize you are in the grace period and will RFE you.

so, it's #2 vs #3, which is cheaper, if money is the problem?

Thank you sooo much for your quick response.

So, I just need to have the first shot? Aren't they going to ask me for the proof of the second and the third shots later on?

Thanks

Nope . Because the civil surgeon will sign the I-693 form saying that you received the shot and so you're good to go

Ok. I guess we do not need to complete the shots.

Damn, this is crazy.....

Why do they tell us to take the shots and do not make sure whether we completed it or not.......

That does not make sense to me at all....

Don't be afraid to ask and hmmm sorry to say but some just want to make money out of intending immigrants...the HPV second and third shot is an option for you to take. BTW the hpv shot is about $160 to $170 and I paid $20 for the civil surgeon to sign the I-693 form

Do you have to have the shots done at the civil surgeons office? Or can you go anywhere else? I do know that Planned Parenthood offers the vaccine and it may be less expensive for people who do not have any health insurance.

HI I tried calling that too. BUt public health clinics in here at orange county, CA will give HPV shot to girl 18 years old and below only. And if ever you get the shot to other planned parenthood clinic since I'm not included in my husband's health insurance yet they will want me to pay the whole amount which is $160 as of last month and then you will need to ask a civil surgeon to transcribed the HPV shot given to the I-693 before he sign. Best thing is to find a civil surgeon first who will agree with your proposition of having the shots done by other clinic and have him/her transcribed it to your I-693, most civil surgeons will not allow this since they want to do it themselves but a few does, like mine, the thing is one must patiently find and call and call and find a nice bargain with a "fair" civil surgeon, there are few of them out there
