Pet owners - is this a big deal? Strapping a dog to the roof of your car while you drive it for 12 hours?

I don't know how the dog felt, but the point is, they couldn't know either. If the dog is out of sight, there's no way to see if he's in distress, and no way to help him if he's got a problem.

But it still doesn't seem as bad as this idea:

I see dogs in the back of pickups all the time. Is this really so different?

Yeah, I would think a dog would love that...don't they love sticking their head out the window?

My dog does it - but mostly when we are inside the city where speed is approx 45 m/h or less. We do not do that when it is too fast - but then again my dog is super small. I am afraid it will fly off.

I have 2 huge dogs and no this is not right no matter who it is. The dog could have flown off the roof and no one would have known. Besides the scare the dog is having up there, all bumpy on the FREEWAY no less.

Yes, my girls like to hang their heads out the window, but I have control of them I see what they are doing and i notice as soon as I get on the freeway with them they lay down. As far as the back of the pick up, that is also very dangerous as they could jump out at anytime depending if they were well trained or not . I know someone who had his hunting lab on a leash in the back of the truck and the dog saw a squirrel and leaped out and then straggled himself by the time the Owner realized his head wasnt showing.

Sorry I am sort of ####### about taking care of your pets properly.

Which is why I'm curious, what do the actual pet owners who read this think?

........I'm probably going to get murdered but I didn't think anything of it until I read the three pounds crushing on his head for 12 hours. I thought it would just like being in the car in his crate but on the roof...

I bet he just didn't realize what would happen. Plus it was 1983, it's over ;)

dirtbag.

Really??

Maybe I don't get it cuz I'm not a pet owner and frankly dislike animals...

Well - I don't have a dog - but I know I'd never do that to my kitties. I guess, I take the approach of would I want to be treated that way. If wouldn't ride that way - then neither should my pets.

Maybe I'd stick grandma on the roof - but never my cats.

yeah but what I have problems with is that it says they had him in the crate for hours with hardly any bathroom breaks or any kind of breaks for that matter...

But Mitt was nice enough to clean him up!

"A brown liquid was dripping down the back window, payback from an Irish setter who'd been riding on the roof in the wind for hours," the article said.

After his son noticed the liquid, Romney pulled the car over and hosed down Seamus at a gas station before putting him back into the crate on top of the car and continuing on with the drive.

I'm a pet owner, and this sickens me. I don't like seeing dogs in pickups either, though they love it. Even putting their heads out the window can damage their eyes and puts them at greater risk for injury in a crash. But at least with the pickup, there is something to block the wind. This dog would have been buffeted by the wind and small projectiles in that crate with no way to escape. You won't see a dog putting its head out the window or over the side for 12 straight hours, especially on the freeway.

The reason why this is a big deal is it illustrates the lack of common sense, the lack of sensitivity, and the poor decision making skills of Romney, a potential candidate for a VP nomination. That is the reason why it is important. Do you want someone in a potential position to make decisions for the country who has demonstrated such poor judgment and lack of sensitivity in making previous decisions? The 'small picture' often gives a good indication of the 'bigger picture'.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

If that's the best there is as to why Romney shouldn't be the Rep VP candidate - I'm sorry but that's ridiculous.

I mean... what's next?

OMG! He dropped a coke can in the woods during a camping trip in '76. String him up by the nads!

This was 25 years ago. I'd say it probably isn't a big deal.

Yeah, things were definately different 25 years ago.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip
