While I don't particularly care for Obama, I don't want to see him injured or killed, either. Defeated, yes, but that's a different goal.

However, a FAILED assassination attempt would practically guarantee Obama the presidency. Public sympathy, increased media coverage, plus the Obama campaign using that as a stepping stone to promote some sort of vague "criminal justice initiative" would have people lining up in droves to elect him. He doesn't really need it, but it would definitely push him over the top.
