My wife was starting a job this morning, and when she was filling out her tax papers another manager read them came in and said she cant have the job because she is not a citizen.

Any of yall ever had that problem?

Sorry but I am not so organized:(.

My timeline stinks.

I've heard of certain positions requiring citizenship or legal permanent resident status. Mostly government jobs, I think.

The post office, for example, requires citizenship or LPR status.

There are some jobs that are not open to non-citizens. For example some positions in the Federal Government or some positions requiring security clearances.

She has permission and green card, and this was a data entry job, that im sure has no security clearance requirment. Well im not so sure but I will be going there today after work to find out.

Yes. In Mexico.

But seriously.... Only certain government jobs would require citizenship. based on security clearances.

that would be a big help. if you can post the job requirements, we'd have a better understanding of things. as mentioned before, does the job require a security clearance?

Some jobs are asking you to be a citizen to apply for a job for security clerances ....

those jobs are usually government jobs.

I n most cases they asked you to have a work permit or green card.

Way back i applied for a job where they wanted US citizens or permanent resident...

You should check on the application form than she has because usually it s state on the papers

it also makes a difference if she has a green card or only a work permit. there is extra paperwork for certain industries for those who only have a work permit (visa workers) and some companies have policies where they will only hire green card holders/citizens. I know this is very common in my industry (financial institutions) due to federal and state regulatory requirements.

I think the manager might be ignorant of the law.

I think the manager is a racist  if she has a green card, she should be able to work at any job she wants (well.. exept for the citizen's job - which i guess.. military those kinda thing)

I once applied for my county's government job and in the job discription siad "alian with work permit" is allow.... and that job is for Human rights department.. well.. I didnt get it though

Hope you get a good result from that, I agree with another poster that maybe this manager is a little ignorant of the law.
