Hi folks!

I just came from the driver license office in garland to ask what do I need to take the test. I already have my SSN. The lady ask for my passport, which I didnt have with me, but I told her that it was a spanish passport with a K1 visa and she said that she wont help me because she needs to see the passport because there are some restrictions... Has anyone had any problem getting the driver license en texas before applying for AOS??

No state will issue a learner's permit, driver's license, or even an official photo ID unless you have at least a receipt notice from USCIS that you have applied for a green card and thus have legal standing in the U.S. Still, you will need to provide your passport as proof of identity. Each state handles things differently, but the bottom line is the same -- proof from the USCIS that you have legal presence, and the passport to verify who you are. Being engaged to marry means nothing to them, nor does being married UNLESS you have applied for your green card.

Thank you guys! When I got the SSN, the lady told me that i could go and get the driver license now. I guess that she really didnt now about it to much or something. Well, thank you again for the information. You are saving me trips to the driver license office!

By the way. In my SSN Card says "Valid for work only with DHS authorization" Is that what it supposed to say??¿?

Apparently yes, research around the VJ site. From what I understand you get that SSN with that text since you've entered the US on a K-1 and you're adjusting status.

If Im wrong someone correct me.

Don't let the choices chose you, chose the choices that you want.
