Who's actually SEEN the Da Vinci Code? What did you think of it?

I wasn't going to bother to go and see it because I just read the book and frankly it wasn't that great... the IDEA was good but Dan Brown can't write his way out of a paper bag! I got bored with the book and never got all the way to the end of it...

Anyway, yesterday afternoon we found ourselves up by the cinemas and John said 'lets go see a movie' and the D. Code was on next so that was what we saw. I thought it was a great movie. Yes it's long... but it's not boring, or not to me anyway. I think it helped that I HADN'T read the entire thing, because I didn't really expect the twists at the end. (DH said he saw them coming a mile off...) And to be honest I don't see why the catholic church has made such a fuss about it... it's not ALL catholics who are depicted in a bad light, just a few fanatics. And there are fanatics on the other side too... to me it shows the dangers of letting fanatacism blind you to what's really going on in the world. Blind faith makes you a tool in somebody else's hands, no matter how devout you are.

My SO saw it yesterday and he loved the movie - he hadn't read the book either - tho I think he bought it - just didnt get round to reading it.

I havent read it or seen the movie, but the idea behind it seems very interesting.

We went to the movie theatre on Saturday to see Posiedon, but since there were people holding picket signs protesting Da Vinci, we decided to go check it out instead.

I liked the movie. It was very interesting and I don't see how it could shatter someones faith. Actually the whole idea of Mary Magdellen's role in Jesus' life being enough to shatter a religion seems far fetched to me also. They said the discovery that the Earth wasn't the center of the universe would destroy the church and people were sent to jail for suggesting it, but even after that discovery, Christianity continues.

There.. my 2 cents.

The scholars have picked holes in it... but I'm not one. And to me there is nothing scary at all about the idea that Jesus was married - I think he most likely was, because it was expected of young Jewish men... he'd have to have had a darned good reason to break tradition and saying 'God doesn't want me to' wouldn't have been good enough... it doesn't make any difference to my faith or my respect for him at all.

And you are right Dalegg, don't see how it could shatter anyone's faith....or for that matter I really don't get why anyone should feel threatened... cripes-sake! As if all the however many zillions of Catholics are gonna stop going to mass...... if they do, they weren't that strong in their faith anyway... Catholics who leave the fold do so for much deeper reasons.

It was OK. I never read the book, but from what they're saying the movie closely follows what happens in the book. I believe it would have been a better movie had Howard the freedom to change some things. I really got the feeling there was dialog and entire scenes there just cause they were in the book.

As for the contrlversy, get over it. The author has said his book is a work of fiction, the director of the movie has said the same thing, so why worry about it so much? If your faith is threatened by a motion picture, then it's not a very strong faith, is it?
