I have a loan that I took out for $5000 which I'm sure I'll have paid off by the time my visa is approved. By chance, if it's not completely paid off, can they withhold my visa from me? Thanks friends!

no credit check is performed... the consulate would have no idea.... they are not concerned about this

I have a huge loan to pay off but it will take me years (it's a 3 year college loan)... the US isn't concerned with this, and I can continue to pay from over there.

No they can't stop your visa, interfere with it or anything like that as far as I'm aware thank god! If they say otherwise they've obviously had their weetabix  ! I had a so called collections agent try to tell me they could stop me from leaving the country, stop my visa and imply they could hold my passport.. I nicely told them they where full of it and they'd get nothing if they lied and behaved forcefully.

I unfortunately got sucked into the credit and loans trap back home! Never again to date we've very little debt, no car payments, 1 student loan, no big credit card payments, no store card payments, no pet payments, no lawyer payments, no other strange weird or made up ####### payments invented by the greedy.. we just pay our bills, costs of living and save up for what we need.

Good Luck!
