We are getting ready to file for Removing Conditions (late, I know... due to a death in the family). I went in to USCIS "case status online" today, having not been on for a LONG time, and saw that our AP documents for my husband and son, originally issued in March 2006, show a "last update date" of 6-21-08.

We never used the AP docs, but we did eventually go back to Nepal for a visit in June 2007, well after the greencards were issued.

How odd is that?

Has this happened to anyone else?

Is there any significance to it?

It was a little creepy, actually, seeing that someone has been messing with our files when there is no application currently pending.

Any light on this would be appreciated.

Maya

If it's any consolation, my I465 and I130 were touched about a year after my GC came. I asked about it at the time on VJ, and the general consensus was that they were moving my file to archives. So I think it's likely that the same has happened with your file...

Hope this helps!

My I-130 was touched a few weeks before I submitted my I-751. I also thought it was very weird, but I've come across a couple of cases that were approved without a problem despite of those weird 'touches'.

My 485 application was 'touched' 8 months after my green card was received as well. I just assumed they were 'filing' it.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I think what happens is that the dates change when they update any existing files you might have with new stuff, eg the I751 may be attached to your previous AOS records and so everything gets the new date.

I'm currently in the I751 process, and did my biometrics over a month ago and my case number still does not exist. At first I was worried but based on the fact that some have indicated that their records were updated months or even years after their original approval (after having filed a follow-up application), I have a feeling its because I had no previous record with USCIS (ie I came via a CR1 using the DCF route so USCIS had no prior filings for me here in the US). I'll probably get 'touched' shortly before approval (or possibly an RFE but hopefully not!).

If I was you (the OP), I'd be happy that they are doing something, and wouldn't worry about it as a negative sign.

Thanks everyone for your reassurance...

Based on your feedback, I'll chalk it up to the bizarre and mysterious inner workings of USCIS, and get on with the business of filing for Removal of Conditions. Thank goodness we have a 3 day weekend coming up... I might actually get it done finally (could've filed as early as 8-8-08).

Thanks again for easing my mind. I thought I was over the immigration heeby-jeebies, but I guess it doesn't end til citizenship!
