"Does no one care? We are hurting. Help!" - Exurban idiot whines, asks others to subsidize her lifestyle

This is a Letter to the Editor:

Editor, the Record:

The gas price is finally going down, so why is Martz still increasing the price for traveling to New York city?

The bus fare was recently increased to $500 for one month's commuter ride. There should be other bus companies. Why does Martz have a virtual monopoly in the Poconos? Can anything be done about the bus fare and support for the residents?

The residents and commuters of northeast Pennsylvania are hurting. We are not able to afford the rising cost of the bus fare to New York on a daily basis.

Jobs are not readily available in this area, nor is the salary competitive. Many of us have to remain in New York during the week and only go home on weekends. This arrangement affects the household. There is usually no one to supervise the children. We are concerned for the children. What about their homework, safety and guidance?

Does no one care about the residents in the area? We are hurting. We need help. A couple working in New York will have to pay $1,000 per month for bus fare only. Is this realistic? Traveling to other states, such as New Jersey and Delaware, the cost is much less for one month's traveling for the same distance or more.

Yes, many may say we have alternatives or choices such as: 1) Leave the job in New York. Then do what? 2) Drive to work: a four-hour-per-day ride can cause wear and tear on the body. Of course, accidents will go up. 3) Live in New York. Of course we can walk away from the homes we have purchased and add to the foreclosure rate.

Can we get a reprieve or some assistance? Anything will help.

I love letters like this - because she left out the obvious - someone put a gun to her head and forced her to live 90+ miles from her work. Not only that, they forced her to by a house, have kids, etc etc...

People never think of that. They see that they can get a higher wage by working in NYC versus, say, Columbus, Ohio, so they go that route. They never seem to consider the other costs - financial, physical, and emotional. If they have another reason to be there, such as family, hometown ties, or such, that's one thing. But if they actually picked that area to live, then it's all on them.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

The overwhelming majority of exurban commuters to NYC from the Poconos moved to the Poconos from NY boroughs or NJ because they wanted a lifestyle they could not afford around here.

They're idiots IMO.

So, I had to do the math because it's what I do:

98 miles from Tobyhanna to NYC one way - 196 miles round trip

Current IRS mileage rate: $0.505

Round trip per day if she drove - $98.98

Let's just say 20 days per month...$1979.60

They are SAVING money this way - if it costs a couple $1000/month : doing the math wouldn't that be $500/person?

Nevermind the fact that she isn't doing the driving, fighting traffic, worried about maintainence. I hate her!

[yes, wrong side of the bed, or I took my b****y pill today, take your pick].

Sure, taking the bus does save her money over driving.

But if you're a typical Poconos commuter, that's not what you're comparing it to. You're comparing it to what the bus used to cost you.
