Wow

I went back to starbucks today and asked the lady to ask her sister how she pulled off a K1 is 2.5 months. Maybe they got super lucky? I'll post when I find out.

To the positive people here: thanks for your input and advice - I found this site recently and really find it helpful too. you seem like a great bunch.

To the negative people: what's up? Who pissed in your cheerios this morning? Try and enjoy life a little more - it doesn't hurt.

We are a couple from a few years ago and it wasn't any faster then. Our I-129f was filed June 16th, 2003 and approved December 30, 2003. The actual K-1 visa part went quickly and I received the visa on March 30, 2004 with only a month wait for the interview. We were straight-forward as well with no RFE's. Allow 8 to 9 months for the whole process right now and be happy if it takes 6 months and don't be surprised if it takes 12 months. 2 1/2 months? Maybe for one half of the process at one time but both halves of the process are necessary.

Yes, you can visit. Prepare a package of documents showing your ties to Canada - rent receipts/lease/mortgage, residential bills (internet, phone, utilities, insurance, etc.), car ownership/insurance in Canada, employment letter, any other type of documents that prove you have financial and familial responsibilities in Canada and include a copy of your filed application as well. You should be prepared to prove to the border guards each and every visit that you are only a visitor on that trip and have no intentions of remaining in the US.

I managed to get approved and into the US using a K-1 visa in 5 months flat. This, however, was during a TSC speedup and a Montreal speedup 4 years ago. Now it takes much longer. You will soon learn to hurry up and wait. :)

I have to say I was lucky- once we filed for our K3 (it took us several months to make the decision to file for it) it was 5 months start to finish. I also had the advantage that I was closer to Vancouver so my case went there.

It was 3.5 months to get the approval at CSC, 1 month until package 3 was in my mailbox and then it was a whirlwind to get everything ready for my Interview in Vancouver. I was expecting a month wait for the interview but I got in 9 days after I faxed back my checklist.

I can't speak to the processing time through Canada, since my fiancee was from Vietnam, but it took the California Service Center about 6 months to approve the I-129F application before sending it to the state department. Fortunately, I see you'd be filing with Vermont, which traditionally has a shorter processing time.

I'd like to think my case had no complications: well above poverty line, no previous marriages, no kids, etc. etc. We didn't get any request for evidence (RFE's) ... just had to wait it out while the application was processed.

Best of luck!
