File sharing isn't as common with other countries like it is between Canada and hte US, so the odds of another country scanning your passport and seeing any existing charges is not likely. Canada and the US have full police file sharing so as soon as they scan your ID at the border, or enter your name into the computer, they'll see your history.

However, I did read maybe last year that the UK will be entering into our file sharing, so soon if you have a criminal conviction you won't be able to travel to the UK either. Which could possibly fan out to the entire EU, I dunno how their immigration and borders work.

The US has been known to ban Canadians from entering the country if they had a minor charge for marijuana possession 20+ years ago. People here at VJ over the years have even had visas denied because they admitted to inhaling during high school or college. Why? Because the US views people who use drugs as (except in the case of anyone running for president of course!) undesirables. Even if it was several decades ago, and you have no criminal record. Just admitting that you've used even once could make you inadmissable!

We have all seen this here and it is such a shame in my opinion.
