I had a Malamute, which isn't too distant from a Husky.

You may be having fun now, but wait until the summers. Worse if you're in a hot climate.

Get the broom, vacuum, clippers, and scissors ready, as well as allergy medicine.

Oh, for sure, if dog hair bugs you, a husky is not the dog for you! but remember this is our second husky, we already have one that's 6 years old, so I've been through my fair share of sheddings. The good thing about Texas summer, is that it is hotter than Buenos Aires', so it makes her shed faster. It's like a hair bomb goes off in our living room! and then it's over. With all that, I love huskies and I love my dog very much and would not trade her for the world

Saludos,

Caro

Great choice! Just remember they are very hyper dogs and need a lot of attention- especially the pups. Don't let her out of your sighte.

Here's a picture of my first one when we got him at 8 weeks, and then later at about a year with our next one (red one) and their friend a female black one.

Did you have another dog with it?

Not sure if Huskies are howlers too. We had to put a shock collar on our Malamute because his howl was so piercing (court ordered).

They do seem to me like a group-type of dog. I think many dog owners overlook this, and makes me feel bad for the dog which is in a back yard lonely for hours upon hours.

No, just the two. Yes they can be howlers- more so than barkers. Max (the male) spent 3 days howling constantly when we had him separated from India (the girl) during his neutering recovery week.

Dalegg, your doggies are so cute!! Congrats!!

Our girl Anya is very social and it will be great for her having someone to play. She does not howl, but she was very vocal when she was a puppy and experimenting separation anxiety. She is still very energetic, but not as much as she used to be up until she was 2 years old.

I brought her with me from Argentina, and this is one of her first pics here in the US

Before I got Anya, I read this book and I just loved it! it is written by Kathlenn Kanzler, head of Innisfree Kennel, and breeder of the only husky to win best in show at westminster: "Sierra Cinnar". A true knowledgeable husky lady  I would recommend it to any husky enthusiast
