Hello all! This is my first post but I have been reading for a while. I will be ready soon to start this k1 journey to bring my fiance here. I wanted to ask you all how your fiances(beneficiaries) did to cope with the fact of moving abroad and start a new life, new language, no job.

Thanks

Well we're still in the waiting phase, but my fiance is busy over in Japan saving every penny he can. His goal is to save $10k before moving out here. Given the waiting period for getting the Visa I'm not seeing a problem in that happening lol

My fiance is in Japan saving money also. There will be a language barrier and culture shock maybe, but we communicate just fine. We kinda have our own language. Japanglish...lol.

She wants to work, but we also want to start a family as soon as we can, so we don't need to job hunt for her now.

First off, welcome to VJ!!! Hope we can be of some help to you throughout your process.

I am from Canada, so there really wasn't any culture shock and definitely no language barrier. But, I still missed my family and friends terribly when I moved here. I still do.... and always will.

But, getting a job definitely helped me to meet new people and feel a bit more independent.

Best wishes to you.

You will know, I'm sure, to be patient and not try to speed up the adjustment. As much as we Americans think we are welcoming, we can be overbearing or overly polite to "newcomers." So don't expect too much right away.

I am sure your fiance will be fine. Isa and Isabella loved the experience. They came in the winter time and it was the first time they had seen snow so they were very excited. The language thing takes some time, I bought them spanish/english books and tapes to learn english. I think the big shock was just the size of everything like the houses, grocery stores, malls and the amount of fast food restaurants. Just be patient and your fiance will do just fine. Isa talks to her friends and family every day through the computer, which helps. Good luck!

That's exactly my plan, too. I don't want to be beholding to anyone, and I certainly don't want to have do that JFK POE temporary stamp thing. No, at least $10k for me as well.

Your fiance will be fine! The best way to deal with culture shock is to take it all in a little at a time. Make sure he/she keeps regular contact with family back home, and maybe find some more people in your area who are from Peru. This may make it easier to merge into another culture. You could also find a store that sells food from Peru, so that wont be a sudden shock!

You guyas are right and thanks for making me feel better. I don't want him to feel out of place. He is worried mainly with the fact of not being able to work right away. He works in HR in Peru so probably he won't do this here in US.

Snap with the $10K. I'm also doing a bit of research on the area I'm going to live, seeing what sort of job opportunities there are and what there is in the area.

Hello!

I am waiting for the visa interview right now, the K1 application was approved. My fiancee is from Peru too. I have a question for you, where in the US do you live? I live on Long Island, NY and basically there are a lot of hispanic people and businesses in my area, so I don't think there will be a problem for Luis to find a job here. Also, he is going to do an intensive english course in the local community college and I have heard great things about it. Not to mention he studied a bit en el britanico.

Everything will be OK. I will fill you in when he gets here and let you know how it's going :)

Hi Suzy, I live in miami, I guess he won't have trouble with language over here but still he needs to learn english. He was studying in Lima but it seems he does not like it that much..and he does not have that much time to learn it. That is why I am here for.

I will be sending the package pretty soon ...I can't wait.

Suzie, Good luck on your interview...everything will br fine and please let me know the details...hopefully you can be allowed to be with him that day.
