hey guys Im finishing up my I-864 package, do I have to prove my co-sponsor is my dad? like do I need a birth certificate where both of our names are mentioned? Or is that overkill?

I don't have a sponser, but I have heard that you need to show some sort of relationship. Translation of birth certificate of both will do it.

I have always thought if I was in such situation, I would just send them a copy of our passports but don't take this from me. Do it in the right way.

I just called for my case, but I asked them about your situation. She said you need to show birth certificate that he is your dad and you have some sort of relationship with him. I asked about biographic page of passport and she said NO.

She asked if you live in the same household and I said yes and she said only birth certificate.

i always suggest to save the money you would have spent on an attorney and invest in a good lap top with cam and wifi internet..... way more effective to get the job done and you have somthing left over when your spouse gets here.

As for me...I'm unfortunately in the 'bad news' category. I got finally got through at literally 12am only to learn I have an RFE as my police certificate is 'unacceptable'. The rep said they want the RCMP one, whereas mine is from the regional police department. I don't get it...before I requested the certificate I asked on the Canada forums and was told that most of them just got the local department one and none of them have had any problems. Guess they just don't like me.

CHD, sorry to hear about your RFE...I got a "little" screwed by USPS...they were supposed to deliver my IV package on Monday...just delivered to NVC this morning.

I'll be requesting my $16.50 refund.

SURE, you can send via FedEx, I personally prefer USPS because it's part of the government.

I've had good luck with USPS until our last mailing which came in a day late, but it's been signed for at NVC, and I can get a refund on the Express Postage.

$16.50 isn't a lot of money, but it's the principle. Whatever you do, look over your package one more time, and make 2 copies of the entire package before you send it in.

That way, if they say something's missing, you'll have another package ready to go, and a copy to send to your spouse before the interview, just so they know everything that's in there, and are prepared to answer any questions about it at the interview.
