I applied for naturalization in April and yesterday had a successful and very pleasant interview. Six of the easiest questions (the officer told me that they give you ten questions if necessary). One sentence to write. One sentence to read aloud.

The only documents he asked for were my driver's permit, green card and passport. The only questions he asked were .. was I still married to my husband and still living with him. He then asked me to reflect on my answer to one of the questions on the form. I had written that I would not take up arms on the premise that I was way to old to be doing so. He got me to change that answer to a yes. :) I warned him that I was a rotten shot!

He wasn't able to give the final approval because they are missing my/our original file from 2004 but reckoned he'd be sending me the invitation to the oath ceremony in about two weeks. There are around three oath ceremonies per month at the moment in Indianapolis.

So ... from marrying on Sept 18 2004 it will be under four years from start to finish which I find absolutely amazing!

Good luck to everyone wherever you find yourself in the process.

Congratulations! I'm so glad to hear your process went smoothly!

Long story short, we have a complicated case. We've been at this for nearly 5 years. You can read our story here. I highly recommend our attorney Laurel Scott, as well as attorneys Laura Fernandez and Lizz Cannon .

Filed I-130 via CSC in Feb 2008. Petition approved June 2008. Consular interview in Mexico, Oct 2008, visa denied, INA 212a6cii. We allege improper application of the law in this case.

2012, started over in Seoul: I-130 filed DCF on 7/2, I-130 approved 8/8, Medical at Yonsei Severance 11/20, IR1 appointment in November 2012.

CRBA filed 1-3-13 at Seoul for our daughter

Wife had that same problem with that question, although I did take her to a firing range, just once, but she said never again. Never held a gun before, but shot a surplus Russian WW II rifle and a 12 gauge shotgun, really left a miserable black and blue mark on her shoulder, but she wasn't that bad of a shot. Just told her if they asked her to bear arms, this country would really be in bad shape, and not meaning to insult her, but if they did pick her to bear arms in defense of this country, they would really be at the bottom of the barrel so to speak. And if enemy troops came into our neighborhood, killed me, and wanted to rape her and her daughter, wouldn't have any problems shooting back. So on the basis, she checked yes.

Of confusion to me, is how does one defend the US Constitution? Pick a bar fight? In war, one doesn't think about the flag or the constitution, just think about protecting your buddy and yourself. Best thing to do is to become a defense contractor and make millions like Ross Poirot did. Many of guys like him were exempt from the draft and unfortunately have become the leaders of this once great country. At least as a USC, you can vote against these guys.

congrats

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
