Hello to all,

I have a question if you could help me with please.

There is a George Lake in Diamond Point NY which is a resort place. It is very close to Canada and I believe it must be close to Montreal. Can someone please suggest what to do and see in Canada if we decide to go there for 1 day?

Any suggestions and advices is highly appreciated.

I'd recommend staying on this side of the border, but if you insist.

I was just in Montreal last month and I would highly recommend stopping by The Parc Jean-Drapeau. Here's a post with some video I shot there of a Canadian rat:

Here are a few things that I enjoyed:

1) Botanical Garden - serenity in the middle of the city. Love the koi pond!

2) Olympic Stadium - worth seeing if you're into sports history. If I am not mistaken the botanical gardens are right across the street.

3) St. Catharine's Street - great for shopping, and a few drinks

4) Notre Dame Basilica of Montreal - sometimes they have amazing concerts and choirs. Beautiful and worth even just taking a picture of.

5) Club 737 - a roof top club. Not sure if this is your bag, but I loved this place once upon a time :)

6) Old Montreal - take a carriage ride, enjoy the scenery, eat at a nice quaint restaurant, take some photos, watch the boats.

7) Peel Street Pub - just because you can!

Someone's review:

Peel Pub ain't my scene, but it may be yours...it's one of the biggest, loudest bars on the downtown strip. Look for scores of drunken college kids and you'll know you're in the right spot.

Very casual.

8) Montreal Casino - if you're into gambling a nice way to spend an evening

9) La Ronde - the amusement park.

If I may, what did Canadian Immigration do to annoy you so badly? I've been through it numerous times and it's never been terrible (although on one occasion they did hassle me quite a bit). I'm not suggesting your experience wasn't bad; however, I'd just like to know what happened.

pffft, Canadian immigration pissed off my husband in 2001 and he's still bitter about it :P They can be right arseholes, just the same as the US side.

If you go to Montreal you have to have bagels of course. And poutine. And a Montreal smoked meat sandwich. If you share them, you won't die so quickly from clogged arteries

Cat, you forgot to mention the sex shops on rue Ste. Catherine ;)

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

I was driving a rig with The Warped Tour. The trucks were supposed to go to the crossing at Sarnia and the buses to Windsor. Well a few of the bus drivers figured they would go to Sarnia instead and Immigration got swamped. When I went in the guy jumped my case and told me I was supposed to be at Windsor. I politely disagreed and things sort of went downhill from there.

I'm just glad they didn't toss my rig again. That's happened at least 3 times. I don't mind them looking. Obviously they have a job to do, but have a little respect.

I had an experience in Alberta once where they pulled me into a back room and gave me the treatment. The room literally had a bare light bulb and one chair. When they asked me to empty my pockets I pulled out $400.00. One asked "How much money is that"? I said "$400.00" The other whistled and said "Wow, that sure is alot of money". I laughed and said "No it's not"! Back then the dollar garnered $1.62 Canadian, so maybe they were right!

Don't get me wrong, I know the Americans can be a real pain, but I've never had a bad experience with them. I've had at least 3 with the Canadian Officials out of approximately 100 trips.

If I may, as one day I will be returning home to assume my position as Governor General of Canada . . . . ahem:

I apologize on the behalf of the Canadian people for your treatment when reaching our borders. We hope that all visitors to Canada receive a warm and open welcome, and leave with a sense of the pride and pleasure we have in welcoming people to this fine land each year. It is unfortunate that this was not your experience - and I wish to extend our sincerest apology for that. Truly, the CBSA officer or Immigration officer, did not recognize the gift that you were transporting into our country (they're very obtuse sometimes). I hope you will consider Canada on your travels again one day - and bring a letter signed by my office (in Rideau Hall) - that you are to be welcomed into Canada with open arms, no searches, no asinine comments/questions, and of course a nicely chilled Canadian beer.

Seriously though - they sounded like they were angry about being swamped with work. And that's never an excuse, since they're being paid to do it. You sound reasonable in your expectations that a search and stop may be required, but there's always a polite approach to undertaking these. Jerkstores!

 Apology accepted.

I'm in Akron now. Maybe I should go over and see if that guy is still working at Goodyear!

Usually I'm bringing Broadway shows in and never hear a thing. I don't think they wanted The Warped Tour anywhere near the Country and after touring with them I may see why!
