Helo. I am getting ready to apply for my citizenship, but i am very confused on a few things. I have never changed my SS card after getting the permanent residency. My card still sais "valid for work only with INS authorization". Is it necessary to change it to have that statement taken out before i go for the interview or can i change it later?

I was never arrested nor had any problems with the law, but 3 years ago i got into a minor traffic accident. No fine or ticket resulted from that although it was my fault, but i did have to write a statement at the local police department. I didn't have to go to court or anything, just deal with the insurance company Is that considered a citation? A traffic violation? I am very confuzed about these terms.

There is one more thing that i bumped into and i'm not sure what to do or how this would look. My spuse and i have been together for over five years, have filed for taxes together, have the car in both names and the lease, but a while ago we decided to get sepparate bank accounts, as our marriage is going through a tough time right now. We are not separated or anything, just have one common bank account left with a couple hundred bucks in it. Would that be a potential problem when i go for the interview?

If anybody can help me out with any of these questions i will be very greatful. Thank you.

Thank you for the fast reply. The GC i've had since January 16th, 2006, so i'm guessing i can apply starting October 19th, 2008. I didn't have a conditional card, i got the 10 year card, as we were married for more than 2 years when it arrived. I would have no problem proving my spuse's citizenship. I can bring the birth certificate and passport at the interview.

Sounds about right if that's 90 days before 3 years. You shouldn't have any problems . Not with the "fender bender' either.

Thanks a lot Haole. Anybody has some thoughts regarding having everything i need for the interview except for joint bank accounts? We only have one together, on both names, but has very few money in it. Would i get rejected because of that? Please help.

i included everything with both our names on it, car ownership, tax returns, credit cards, insurances...i don't think it matters if you only have a few hundred dollars in your account.

i hope you get the approval!

Lord blessed be Your name!

Thank you both very much. We have the lease, the car on both of our names and have filled taxes together every year. We have been continuuesly living together(proved by the lease & bills(except credit card), i guess). Do you think i should get any statements as proof from the neighbours too? It would be great if they wouldn't care how much money is in the joint chcking accout. I'd rather wait 2 more years than get denied right now and loose all that money.

You don't need to submit statements from your neighbors as proof. The joint lease, joint income tax returns (tax transcripts) and joint bills should be sufficient.
