Tamara, what method did you pay the items with - credit card or did it come directly out of checking account? If you used your credit card for eBay, you are protected. Contact your bank and tell them you want to file a dispute over some recent internet purchases. This is bypassing whatever Paypal is telling you, but screw them...they only guarantee up to $200. Once you file a dispute on the charges with your bank, they will credit you the amount of the charges and then your bank will require Paypal to verify that you actually received what you were charged for, which they can't.

Also....I didn't look at which laptops you bought, but honestly, $1,500 for one sounds awfully high. I recently bought a Toshiba with 17 " screen, 320GB Hard Drive, and 3GB RAM at Circuit City for under a grand. And I need something powerful for my profession. I wouldn't recommend ever buying a laptop through eBay - should anything go wrong with it, etc. Anyhow, sorry for the trouble that you're in...hope you can get your credit card company/bank to credit you the money quickly. (F)

Excellent advice. I didnt realise they only covered $200 as I have never purchased anything over that amount. Very good to know though.

Agreed about buying laptops via eBay....I ummed and ahhed about buying an iPod but decided i'd rather spend the extra $ and be sure of what I was getting.

I would guess that the seller's account was hijacked. When that happens, eBay disables the account, making them appear as no longer registered.

How many feedbacks did the seller have in total? Did they suddenly start selling higher-end stuff only a week or so ago? Those are things to look for to determine if the seller's account was hijacked by someone else.

:help: Pretty sad! :( It was our first time to use Ebay and it looked good with the sellers ratings and store. We bought 2 high priced items on August 16th, paid with PayPal and the sellers account received it on Wednesday Aug 20th. . . No word from the seller about anything! Adam even tried to call them today but only got the sellers store answer machine and then this evening I find that they have 5 bad reviews dated from yesterday and today saying the buyers never received their products they paid for! :protest: I immediately called Ebay customer service bcz I was soooo upset... I am feeling like something is not normal and possibly a scam. Ebay Customer Svc said they will handle it but could take up to 10 days. I just want our money back now and never use Ebay again. Im sad!

Ye, I have been hearing too many scams stories from eBay! Sorry for what happened to you!

I agree. A laptop is something that definitely is too risky too be purchased on Ebay. IMO. Mainly due to possible warranty/return issues.

last December I sold something on Ebay and the day after it sold I was going to mail it off but then I got admitted to the hospital and it didn't get mailed off till like a week or so later and the buyer sent me a couple emails wondering where his package was... which of course I didn't get til later because I had no access to a computer...

I guess it never occured to anybody that the seller could have had a family emergency. Or a medical emergency. Or maybe died even.

Let's just jump off the deep end and assume that after having good ratings, they turned into a scammer overnight.

That's why I mentioned the account hijacking possibility.

I bought a bike recently from a guy who had 100% feedback. It was supposed to be my birthday present. 2 weeks came and went with no reply from the seller. Finally, I filed an ebay dispute. A few days later, I got an email from the guy saying he'd been in the hospital with the worst illness he'd ever had. During that time, he had not listed any other items for sale, nor had he left feedback for anyone. So, I believed him. I had suspected as much in the first place, and even mentioned that in my eBay dispute.

Here's the auction/bike: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=260262936585

(It doesn't look like that any longer...)

My current problems are non-paying bidders. I sold my Volvo on eBay over a month ago and I've only gotten $100 out of the guy and the car is STILL sitting in front of my house.

I sold one of my bikes 6 days ago and haven't heard a peep from that guy either.

Grrrr.....

Yep....eBay is not fail-safe and anyone using it is taking more of a risk than buying or selling through other means. About the only thing I see that it has in its favor is the feedback but as you demonstrated, even that isn't fail-safe.

When it comes to risk taking bargains, I'd rather stick with Craigslist because if I buy or sell locally, the transaction is done in person and in cash.

Did you pay with Paypal? If so, report them and you should be able to do a chargeback and get your money back. Let me know.

HEY! We paid $1548 for 2 laptops not 1.. Both the same Toshibas. We used PayPal where they take it from our bank account.

So from what Im hearing and understand, if this really is a scam then Paypal will credit my bank account back through Paypal? for the whole amount or not ?
