RFIE - How to get a new W2?

 Share

13 posts in this topic

Recommended Posts

We got a request for initial evidence today, and USCIS wants my W2 for the most recent tax year.

While my co-sponsor keeps meticulous tax records, I have not, because I've never had a need till, well, now.

Does anyone know how I can go about getting a replacement W2 for last year? I can't seem to find mine, and I want to get this process off the ground ASAP so the case can get started right away.

I've searched the IRS website, and it doesn't say anything specifically about getting a replacement W2.

Thank you.

Check with your employer. Some may want to charge you for it.

W2s are generated and filed by your employer. Contact HR at your place of employment about getting a new 2007 W2.

ditto to t0+. I got IRS tax transcripts and it was the easiest thing ever. Only thing is you have to wait about a week for them to arrive in the mail.

I suggest getting three years' worth, since that's how many they will send for free. Send em all because the NVC is apparently insanely thorough. With tax transcripts, you don't need to send W2s, according to the I-864 instructions.

Good luck!

Long story short, we have a complicated case. We've been at this for nearly 5 years. You can read our story here. I highly recommend our attorney Laurel Scott, as well as attorneys Laura Fernandez and Lizz Cannon .

Filed I-130 via CSC in Feb 2008. Petition approved June 2008. Consular interview in Mexico, Oct 2008, visa denied, INA 212a6cii. We allege improper application of the law in this case.

2012, started over in Seoul: I-130 filed DCF on 7/2, I-130 approved 8/8, Medical at Yonsei Severance 11/20, IR1 appointment in November 2012.

CRBA filed 1-3-13 at Seoul for our daughter

...So even though the yellow letter I got says "Submit W2's / 1099's (which I didn't file, and never have), I can really circumvent that with a tax transcript?

It's not that I doubt anyone specifically, but 9 times out of 10, anytime someone asks advice on what to send, the resounding answer is "Send exactly what's on the letter..."

I strongly suggest you to do that but after you entered yoyr SSN try different options and get IRS rep on a line. If you will request transcript by mail (which is described above) it will arrive in a month or two (or won`t arrive at all, thats what happened to my hubby). If you get rep on a line you can ask transcripts to be faxed to you so you can get them immidiatly.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

This is an exception, or the 10th time out of 10. Send them a transcript. If you sent three tax returns, send them three tax transcripts.

I don't have a fax machine, so that's kind of not going to help me.

Besides, even if it took a month, we have 87 days (not 90...) to get it to them.

I don't know, I mean, maybe it would almost be better to try and go get a replacement W2 before I try to get this...argh.
