Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any idea of what to write in the letter explaining why taxes were not filed last year? I wrote a `letter`but it looks more like a paragraph.... It just says I moved here to study at the end of 2006 and was a full time student until I got married. I said I lived with my dad who paid for my school expenses. I then said I did not have any income and therefore did not file taxes. What else should I say?

I don't know your history, but you might want to give a brief explanation in the letter of your financial situation indicating why your husband will not become a public charge. It's also good to include evidence to back up your claim. Items might include a student visa stamp, college transcripts, etc. It's good if the petitioner can show fiscal responsibility even if they have a co-sponsor lined up. The visa information office told us to have the letter notarized.
