Hello everyone ~

Congratulations to ALL who have been APPROVED on this "journey" ... we cannot wait to join the ranks! I am very new to VJ and I'm not sure if I just don't know where to find what I need ~ or if it's not here?! Here's my question ...

My fiance is Nigerian by birth but has lived on the Ivory Coast in Abidjan for most of his life. We want to know what processing times are like on the Ivory Coast and how it compares to Lagos. We spent 10 days together in China in November of 2007. I am going to Africa in November this year for 15 days and we are trying to decide if we should get married while I am there and file the K3 or if we should file the K1? And if we decide to get married while I am there ... how difficult of a process is it in Abidjan???

Just trying to figure out the best course of action for us to take and are looking for anyone who might be knowledgable about the Ivory Coast.

Thanks so much ...

Erica & Eric

I have not seen ANY active members from the Ivory Coast here.

Welcome to VJ and good luck on your journey :)

I know ~ I haven't seen any either. I'm not going to get much help I don't think! We'll be wingin' it. I guess we'll have to decide if we want to go with the unknown or Lagos ...

Thanks for the welcome to VJ ... have a great weekend!

Welcome to sub-saharan !

I also have not seen anyone from Ivory Coast here. But then I was the lone ranger for a very long time until just recently someone else

with my SO's country came along.

The K1 seems to be slightly faster than the spousal visa but the spousal visa is cheaper and on the K1 he has to adjust status ( $ 1010 ).

Read the VJ guides by clicking on the tab and decide which route is best for you.

I searched for other Ivory Coast members for you and there are 8 other members besides you and 3 of them new.

Maybe you can pm them and see what you come up with. Sometimes new members have an idea of the time pattern through hearing about it from

others outside of VJ.

Thank you for the welcome! And for checking things out like you did ... you went above and beyond and it's truly appreciated! Eric and I decided over the weekend that we are going to file the K1 after I get back from Africa. My question now is this .. he is living on the Ivory Coast but he's Nigerian - I know we can file through whichever Embassy he's close to but I'm not exactly sure how all that works. He will stay in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) until he can come here ~ do you know if he will have to go to Nigeria for anything or if everything will be done in Abidjan??

Any suggestions, comments or advice you have is welcomed!

Thanks ~

Erica

He can do everything in Abidjan

The only thing he will need from NIgeria is a police certificate (if he lived there at any pint since he was 16 for more than a year).

Thank you thank you for the information! I had been told he could do everything in Abidjan but wanted to hear it from someone on here! :) Do you know how long it takes to get the police certificate from Nigeria and how difficult it is to get? Oh, and the cost?

You are going to get tired of me asking questions ... lol

Thanks much!
