How did you guys do it?

Just took the baggage allowance and left everything else behind?

Used any service?

Please share your experiences. I don´t have A LOT to take but still, I got some presents from my family and friends that I wish to take, as well as some decorations I have in my room. Not including my shoes, bags, clothes, etc. It will be heavier than what they´re gonna allow me, I am sure, and I´m wondering with plenty of time ahead if there´s a way (cheaper than excess baggage) of taking all my stuff with me.

I´d prolly take 2 luggages and an extra cardboard box, besides my handbag.

Laura... I am doing this: Sending small boxes by mail every 2 months... it is not that expensive and by the time I get there, I will almost everything there too. What is left behind, you could always ask to somebody to keep sending it to you.

How much are you paying and what sort of stuff have you been sending?

I also sent some stuff thru Fedex (wedding dress, a painting, some decorations)... it was not cheap, cheap... but it was better than extra luggage, and it got here safe and sound.

it has been between 70 to 100 reais.. boxes with 5 to 7 kgs...

I send books, cds, things that I won't need here and can ship...

I tried looking for some sort of service to send boxes (not a big moving)and all I could find were places that have a minimum weight to move internationally for you, which is totally not what I am looking for. I´ll see about sending some stuff through regular mail.

Well. I'm not brazilian (I'm peruvian) but I remember that each and everytime mu hubby went to visit me, he brought some of my stuffs with him (clothes, books,decoration). And he went to Peru to pick me up (and attend the interview with me) so we used his 2 luggage, we had in total 4 big luggage. I left alot of my stuffs in my house 'cause my parents didnt' want me to take everything.

My fiance won´t come to pick me up so, I won´t be able to use his baggage limit to take my stuff.

I went down for the interview with carry-on only, so (my) Laura used my 2 bag allowences (32kg each) plus her 2, plus 2 more at $100 each plus 2 carry ons. So 6 suitcases in all, plus 2 carry ons. and tons more stuff to get when we go down for x-mas. help!!

I was able to go to the interview with Elaina in April and brought back a suitcase full of her clothes. She traveled here last week with just her baggage allowance (2 bags) and 1 carry-on. Since the weather has been cool (she thinks cold) here in New York we did have to purchase some new clothes for her (which she seemed to enjoty). We are planning on visiting her family in January (hope the AOS and/or AP goes well) and will bring the rest of her stuff back then. We might have her family ship a few things since she thought she could wait for them but has decided she would like to have them here now. When I find out anything about shipping, I will port it here.

that is what we did too. and we left stuffat her parents' house. everytime we go back, we bring more. plus Ana gave/sold a lot of stuff(the bedroom furniture for example).
