I'm working on assembling the documents needed for the second part of the visa application process. My Dad went through a similar process with his fiance, now wife, being from the Philippeans and he said I need to get a certificate from the Indian Gov stating that my fiance has never been married before and is eligible to get married to me. Also needed is a background check certifiying that he has a clean record and has not committed any crimes.

Does anyone have an example of what each of these documents is supposed to state or where my fiance could possibly go to obtain this information? He's not sure what information he needs to get and we need more specifics. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

They might have different requirements for the Philippians. For India, you don't need any certificate stating your fiance has never been married. My husband (then fiance) was never married before and he didn't need anything like that.

As for the background check, that is called the Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) and your fiance will get that before the Consulate interview. The Consulate will provide all of those details after your fiance application is approved here in USA first.

Thanks so much for your help. I was so concerned that there was things that I was missing. The whole process seems so in depth. You have to read and re-read all fo the information to make sure you don't miss anything. You don't want any details to be left out so the process is delayed.

Thanks again for your help. My fiance and I will just have to both sit tight until the NOA2 comes in. We've been waiting almost 5 years... what's a few more months, right? :clock:

Thanks again for your help!

While waiting for NOA2 I made a binder with different sections like what I have to send to India, what he has to do there, steps in the medical and interview process, information of traveling by flight, then even started listing AOS documents etc. I filled out example forms of all the applications in the next step of the process. I found the binder with all the notes made me feel better about forgetting stuff! There's too many points to remember and things I found in the posts on VJ that was useful. I would just make a note of it in the proper section of the binder so when I was to that step in the process, I could re=read the notes and be clear about it. Also my Favorites Folder's "Visa" section got really stuffed with helpful hints and posts I saved!
