so i got a little more information..

the other two things are the HMO plans... so if we want a $50 copay they will take $2 off our check each week and if we want a $20 copay they will take about $8 or $9 off our check each week.. I am not sure about the copays for hospital stays but I think they are around $200 to $500 a day depending on your plan...

the person he talked to was still trying to sell him on the HSA account... it would be a $1500 deductible per person which the company covers 40 percent of but that still leaves $900 ..

so let me get this straight, that means we would have to pay out off pocket up to $900 and then the insurance would cover everything after that right?? I really don't think we would rack up over $900 bucks a year.. unless we had an emergency... but I think I would rather go with the HMO and save up the money ourselves in case of an emergency...

Here's the example I got at work:

Annual Deductible: $ 200 per person - $ 500 per family

Co-insurance (plan/employee): 80%/20%

Annual Out of pocket: $ 1,200 per person - $ 3,000 per family

Employee will have to pay the first $ 200, after that pay 20% of of cost up to $ 1,200 (excl. the deductible of $ 200). The plan will pay 100% for anything after the $200 deductible & $ 1,200 of out of pocket max.

argh, so I thought I had it figured out so I filled out all the forms and hubby brought it in the other day and the lady looked it over and so oh with a spouse the plans are a little different :P

so we got the oh so informative letter today :P with the new information.. this is exactly what it says...

In additon there will be the weekly cost on the plan you choose:

HSA - there is a $3000 deductible for family per calender year. the company currently pays 40% of the deductible per year.

$50 co/pay - $39.63 (employee & Spouse)

$20 co/pay - $58.78 (employee & spouse)

so what I am gathering from this is that we have to pay the $22.98 per week plus the $39.63 or $58.78 per week...that works out to about 200 to 300 bucks a month.... :o way more then I thought... I think maybe we will go with the HSA... :unsure:

I don't know, Marilyn...if either one of you has to be hospitalized, your out of pocket is going to be substantial.

My current insurance plan is: (Blue Shield HMO-20 plan)

$20 co-pay

$100 Emergency room - but is applied towards my $1,000 deductible if then admitted in the hospital.

No other out of pocket expenses. I'm being deducted about $160 per month for whole family coverage.

We have open enrollment coming up in September and I think I might switch to the $10 co-pay plan because it eliminates the $1,000 deductible for hospitalization. Just in this last year, I've had two family members hospitalized, so I'm already sitting on $2,000 in medical bills. You just don't know what might happen over the next year and if there's any way to eliminate out of pocket costs, I think that is the safest way to go, even if it's more of pinch out of your pay.

A HSA is a Health Savings Account..what is does is takes money out and put it aside for u to use towards coverage thigs..u usually can use it towards ur deductible, some over the counter stuff..sometimes birth control u can also use it to pay for ur copays..one thng u must keep in mind is that if u don't use it by the end of the year u lose it..so it works well if u have to say have Physical Therapy where ur gonna be paying a copay each visit..or if u use birth control or ur doc is out of network and then u can use it for ur deductible...

That depends on your HSA. You can easily get one that does not do that.

Our HSA rolls over. But FSA cannot be rolled over

Yes, I think there is some confusion between HSA and FSA - at my job we have an HMO plan, for employee only I pay a minimal premium and low copays($15 for most office visits and $5-10 for prescriptions, even birth control) but if I want to cover Govi it would be $300/month which isn't possible - I am hoping we can find a catastrophic coverage plan for him until he gets work which won't cost more than $100/month. We also have a FSA plan which is taken out of pre-tax pay, that can cover copays, glasses/contacts(which aren;t covered under our HMO), OTC meds, even things like earplugs and first aid supplies(Walgreens puts an 'F' next to anything which can be covered on their receipt). If you don;t use the $$ by March 15th of the following year then you lose it. We don't have an HSA plan.
