Both Parties have moved to the Right since Reagan was in office. Many believe the pendulum has already swung as far to the Right as it will go before voters realize that such a narrow approach to policy making has been a miserable failure and they're ready for something different.

The party of Teddy Kennedy and Howard Dean too far Right? It must be me, but I just don't see it.

The party of Teddy Kennedy and Howard Dean too far Right? It must be me, but I just don't see it.

Are you suggesting that Ted Kennedy has enormous influence on all the significant legislation in past 20 plus years? Or Howard Dean - has much legislation on a national scale has he influenced?

Let me drop some names for you....Newt Gingrich, Tom Delay, Trent Lott. Look them up yourself...you might be surprised just how much influence they've had over legislation compared to Kennedy.

Ted Kennedy's weight doesn't have much to do with how much he eats. I mean.. how liberal he is.

It's about seniority, and of course being in the Kennedy family. He's an old fart who's been around for a while, and has stuck his nose into the ### of others, so he now carries weight.

The suggestion in the post you quoted is a farce because "left" and "right" have little to do with it. Politicians will jump left and right if they have the right gun aiming at their feet, i.e. funding/interests. Just because Ted Kennedy happens to be a Democrat doesn't mean Democrats are suddenly the part of the super-left. I mean, Lincoln Chafee was a good ol'school Republican who people now would call a liberal. There were plenty like him. Unfortunately the seniority now just happens to have too much neo-con pull, because they're the ones getting down 'n dirty.

A good example is Nancy Pelosi. She didn't have weight because she was a liberal, she had weight because she wasn't afraid to get dirty, and of course because she could get things done. (the latter part proven untrue now) Soon as she had the mandate she shifted drastically to the right, enough to, I think, make whoever else is a Democrat contender, more prone to taking her spot if San Franciscans are as smart as they've shown to be in recent years.

No...I'm just passing on my observation of the big "to do" made when Teddy boy embraced your boy Obama as the Democratic candidate for president. All the little Kennedys big and small jumped on board the Obama wagon. As I remember, Caroline was going to form or be on some sort of committee that was going to help choose his running mate. The Kennedys just gushed that Obama would carry on the mantle of the Kennedy legacy. Etc., etc.

It also doesn't escape notice that Howard Dean is the chairman of the DNC.

This isn't exactly the face of the Right. Not by a long shot. Nor was or is the 2004 candidate for president, John Kerry. Nor is Pelosi. These are the faces of the ultra-lib Left of the liberal left and right coasts. These are faces many people associate as the standard bearers of the party. Fair or not, they seem to stand out on the national scene.

Anyway, I hardly think we can compare a Lincoln Chafee type of Republican to a run of the mill Zoe Lofgren / Barbara Boxer types that many see infesting the Democratic party at large.
