    • We want to combine both of American & foreign heritage, so we will name according to thatritage

I got this idea while reading changing names after marriage

So since its an international marriage forum, so its co-mingling of cultures and heritages, so will you choose a name which reflects your Non-USC SO's culture?

Personally for us, whenever we do have our kids, we would like to have them their first name from my husband's background and the scond name will be an Indian name and then last name as my husband's surname.

Still far ahead, but...

We are thinking of names that are spanish in heritage but that you can find here in the US with an equivalent english pronunciation :)

For example, Sofia (So-phia)

We will be combining a Biblical first name with an Indian middle name (unless the Indian name just happens to be close-enough to a Biblical one).

Most names in the PI are English or Spanish. All of my wife's siblings are named with a 'J' - Jennifer Ann, Jennith, Jenessa, Jinky (wife), Junje...and my wife's 7 yr. old's name is Job, so I thought I should go along with their tradition...we named our boy, Joshua, Steven. :)

We used a combo...first name is Indian from my husband's side with the middle name being American, well from the bible really. We didn't have a set decision until it got closer to when we knew we wanted kids. We decided to pick Indian names that weren't too long or too hard to pronounce and we both had to like the way it sounds. I like the idea of the Indian names even though I am not Indian. Now that we have a Kavi (Seth middle name b/c of a dream I had), next baby should also have an Indian first name or they might be jealous that their brother has one and not them. Whether people in school take a bit to get used to "Kavi", I don't care anymore. It's not a long confusing Indian name.

There are lots of kids these days with "American" names that spell them a million different ways and people ask "how do you say/spell that?" all the time. Examples: Kylie, Kyleigh, Jaden, Jayden, Jaydain, Ashleigh, Aiden, Aidyn, Riley, Kieran, Keegan, Kaiden, Caden, Cadyn, Addison, Brayden, Peyton, Payton, Kayleigh, Kaylie...

I think I made my point. lol. Those are not considered ethnic sounding names but who on earth automatically knows how to spell each one? :P

we just picked names taht we liked and agreed upon..

Noah William (William for my dad and grandpa)

Katelyn Mary (Mary for my mother-in-law)

* side note.. my nephew was born on the exact same day as my son just a year later and they named him Levi James and then my dad made some glib remark (probably in jest knowing my dad) about why they didn't use his name (I think my dad forgot that we had already named our son after him) anyways I find this all out later when my mom informs me that they decided to add William to his name, Levi James William... I was just a little upset  my sister-in-law claims that she didn't know that we had used my dad's name or she forgot or something....

option 3. since he/she will be raised in the States, i want a more american name that has a similar brazilian version, so both brazilians and americans can pronounce without having a major pronounciation difference.
