I filed I-131 for my 12-year old son to get a re-entry permit, so that he can go to school in our home country.

The new laws and/or regulations now require applicants to go to a local office for "biometric collection", i.e. finger printing and/or photo taking, if applicants are between age 14 and 79, according to I-131 instructions. My son is 12 year old so I didn't include the extra biometric fee. Nevertheless, he received an appointment notice for biometric collection. We wrote them a letter to cancel the appointment since he should not be required, or reschedule with explanation why he is asked to go to the biometric appointment. But they just reschedule it and sent us another appointment notice.

What should we do to correct this mistake of theirs? Calling the 800 number wasn't very helpful as they just suggested to write a letter, which I did.

According to the on-line status check today, this application seems to have been approved and the re-entry permit has been mailed today.

If it comes before the appointment date, can I just ignore it, or should I still write to them?

When did you file your re-entry permit and how long did you wait for the finger printing appointment?

Here's my case and I could use some help:

I plan to leave this coming October (the 19th to be exact) and I already applied for a re-entry permit last week. I filed and passed it on 8/18 thru my lawyer and received a notice last Friday, saying that they received it on 8/19. Question is, when do you think will the finger-print processing take place?

And also another thing-- I found a ticket w/ a pretty good price already, and I'm told by my travel agency that I should book it this coming Friday. Otherwise, the price will bump higher than expected. What do you suggest should I do? Book it already considering the flight will still be in nearly 2 months time? Or wait for the FP notice? #######, decisions... decisions...
