You will need to demonstrate ties to the satisfaction of the CBP officer at your port of entry.

Not every CBP officer is the same, so what works for one often doesn't work for another.

If I think its look like a no - I just flashed some #######. Works everytime

Just kidding - make sure they have a letter from their employer (saying their job attached), bring some papers showing you have bank accounts still open, mortgage, rent, utilities etc. If they ask for it, sometimes that's more than enough proof of sufficient ties.

Ok - bad advice. . . . . . unless they like that kinda thing.

Bring whatever paperwork you have to show that you are still maintaining your residence in the UK. Cause that is what they want to ensure - that while the application is still pending - you haven't entered the US with the intention of taking up residency.

you can find cheap flights here:

www.flyzoom.com (Canadian budget airline - goes to a few locations in US from UK)

www.statravel.co.uk (specialises in "youth" airfares)

I came to visit my fiance twice whilst our I129F petition was still pending.... it did not once come up on the computer. I told them I was visiting friends and family, and they seemed fine with that. I was prepared though, with:

- A travel plan, cause they always ask

- proof of funds for the trip

- bank account information from the UK

- A false internship letter that starts when I return

They never asked for any of it.

I don't think you would be doing yourself any favours by drawing attention to the fact that you have a US fiance. They will be more suspicious that you will marry and try to stay.

A false letter? Fake documents aren't a good idea...if that's what you meant by false internship letter. Someone on here told the tale of using a false letter of employment (methinks it was in the Canada Forum) and it came back to bite her in the butt.

To the OP: Whatever documentation you bring with you as your proof of ties to the UK, make sure they are legitimate ones. You never know what kind of CBP you'll encounter at your POE.

Not sure if you're thinking it, but if it's a female officer, I would NOT flash the unit...unless you're Eric's twin brother.

Try www.cheaptickets.com, though as it's an american site the USC might have to book it. My OH booked my tickets to the States through here and they were £300 cheaper. Also try www.lastminute.com and www.expedia.co.uk as these will list lots of different airlines at once.

Yes I agree that false documents are risky. But I had no ties to the UK. I am unemployed, and graduated from University a year ago. I had been coming and going from America constantly, and only ever spent a week or two in England in between 90 day visits and J1 visas. I am lucky they never asked for it, but thought that at least a letter stating an offer for an unpaid internship was more believable than an offer for employment. i dont really understand how bank statements can prove you are returning to the UK. What they do want to see though, is that you can support yourself throughout your stay in the US.

Hmmm....are you sure of that? Being able to support yourself while in the US I mean? When you are visiting your fiancé like that, they want proof you aren't intending to stay and attempt to immigrate. Proof of ties means just that...proof that you WILL return to your home country which is usually mortgage or lease, bills, employer letter...the real thing too, things like that. Advising someone else to take a risk like presenting fake documents is just wrong. You might have been lucky, but someone else might not be...and if that someone takes a risk on your advice, methinks they won't too happy with you.

From experience, yes, they want to know how much money you are traveling with. It is always the only thing they ask me, other than where I plan to travel to and who I am staying with.

It has nothing to do with having a fiance, it is to do with whether or not you will try and find unauthorised work. If you are in your 20s or are a student, you are especially suspicious to this.... at least I have found so. When my friends have come to visit us, they have all been asked, too... and they were only coming for a few weeks. So if you are here several months, you should be prepared.

I take back my advice on a fake internship, and am thankful I was never asked for it.
