Let us know what the Consulate says. At the same time, you really don't have a choice. They are saying they don't provide x-rays on film. So, you can't bring one. So really, your email should say, you can't provide one, unless it's on CD, rather than asking if that's okay but you'll have to see what they say. I think the whole things is a waste. Once the radiologist reads it at the place where you get it, I think they just don't want to store it, so they give it to you. No one knows what the heck to do with it, so you have to cart it around everywhere! Mine is on the top shelf of the computer room closet.

Oh, I could bring one. We could be forced to have an X-ray done on the mainland that still provides film. We haven't had them make the CD yet so we won't even bother if they don't need it. I read somewhere the CDC's webpage that digital X-rays are accepted on CD-R for the "medical examination of aliens". Sounds funny, doesn't it? http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/updates.htm

I think that if your medical results in positive for TB or negative TB but inactive TB shown in X-ray or abnormalities shown in X-ray that the consulate will ask for the copy of the X-ray so that they can forward it to the CDC for additional review. I never thought that the consular officer would look at it and review it themselves. This is of concern to us because of a medical issue which arose a few years back that is probably going to show up in a chest X-ray. That and of all the other technicalities they've RFE'd us on at the NVC regarding the police certificates and marriage certificates, leave it to us to be the first to be asked for the X-ray and not have it. Thanks for everyone's help.

Just wanted to follow up on this in case anyone finds this thread in a search. I never did get a reply from Montreal via email. Since it was the last day the person who could provide the Xrays on CD was in before his vacation, I called the NVC, the Department of State in DC and CBP. After waiting 40 some odd minutes on hold, I was told that the consulate only needs the xray report which is contained in the sealed medical envelope NOT the xray itself. They thought maybe the POE would want it so calling CBP they said they do not need/want the Xray. When we arrived at the POE the officers even joked about visa recipients hauling these huge xray films in with them saying that the consulate told them to bring them. Lack of communication between the two causes confusion for us all. Bottom line, the Xray itself (film or CD) is not required at all.

My X-ray was on CD-Rom I took it with me to MTL although I knew they wouldn't ask for it. I still have it here tucked away with all my other paper work

Yeah, it still can be a good thing to have. You can give it to your new GP in the states for them to compare to newer xrays you may have in the future to observe changes. In our case we have several xrays, CT scans and a PET scan on file so we decided to save the $20 needed to get the CD-ROM and just go without anything.
