I've done a search and one other thread in the Canada forum had come up about asking the hospital in Halifax to provide the Xray in film form and specifically not to get the CD-ROM. We're trying to get an Xray from Health Sciences in St. John's, NL and the doctor says they don't provide film Xrays any more, only CD-ROMS. Does anyone know if Montreal has made it out of the stone ages yet and will accept Xrays on CD-ROM?

Well, the embassy itself doesn't care much about the X-ray anyways. Only the radiologist can make an interpretation of your x-ray, which is included in your medical's result in the seal enveloppe. After the medical nobody ever needed those X-rays, and everyone will tell you the same.

And more and more hospital are going digital anyways and I am sure the USCIS/embassy/whatever immigration agency will have to adjust to it.

I wouldn't be too bothered about it, but you could always e-mail them and see what they say if you are unsure. I wouldn't. Even veterinary hospitals now have digital X-Rays. Its more efficient, cheaper on the long run and much faster. And I had X-rays done few months back and eveything was digital.

correct me if I am wrong but I don't think anybody here as actually had to show their X-ray at the interview...

never

Again like I said, only a radiologist has the power to make an interpretation of an x-ray. Doubt there is any at the embassy

Yes, this is what I was thinking too. The people at the consulate are not doctors and cannot read the Xray itself any more than most of us can. But we went through the Vancouver consulate, where they do not even take the Xray, and I wasn't sure if this was the same in Montreal.

One other thing---I don't know when you or your partner had the medical done and I'm also not sure exactly when the change went into effect, but they are now no longer requiring an X-ray UNLESS a skin test for TB comes back positive. This also means they are requiring a TB skin test. There are two different changes---that one and a change in the vaccine requirements. One of the changes went into effect for anyone having their medical after May 1 (my husband's was in April). Hmmm, I will see if I can find the link for you quickly. If not, I'll get it tomorrow. You will probably find it if you check the AOS forum in the sticky threads at the top.

did you try emailing the consulate yet? im curious too since my husband is a newfie and we're almost done with NVC

Yes but the auto-response says that it could take a week to respond. I'm holding off on getting anything now as the CD costs about $20 so no use paying it if they're not going to need it. I also think the doctor has the old forms as there wasn't a spot on it for the HPV vaccination. I'll get a proper review on him here later, but he was very friendly and it only cost $90 :) Tetanus shot was free and done on site. If airfares were still low like they used to be when JetsGo and CanJet were around, it'd almost be worth it for some of you to fly out to NL for your medicals being that some of you have to pay over $300!

no consulate accepts any kind of evidence on magnetic or other similiar media...

but they don't ask for it at all either.... They ask for it to be done and read, and recorded in the medical.

I recall being strictly told NOT to have it on CD, that it must be on film! but that was back in 2004. Yes 99.99999% Montreal cares less. I imagine Mtl and other consulates are going to have to switch their way of conducting business as film is going by the way side, at least from what i have been told

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
