Well, the thing is, for the most part, people ask the same tired old questions that are really just not necessary if you bother to read the instructions for the required forms. They're written at a pretty low level. Hell, I filed the K-1 and got all the way to NVC before I ever even HEARD of VJ - let alone read its wealth of information. Frankly, for most people, this stuff just ain't that hard. Read the instructions, do what they say. Duh. For the people with special circumstances that involve complex issues not easily addressed by the form instructions, it's a good idea to get an AT anyway (I recommend Satellite, he tells it like it is). Aside from all of that - if people would just read the existing threads and posts, almost all of their questions will be answered anyway.

It is pretty rare for someone to post a visa-related question can't be answered just by reading the form instructions, or the posts that are already on here as a secondary source of information. But you get plenty of people who can't be bothered to read anything, they just want to ask their question, rather than search an excellent source of information first. Plenty of those that DO bother to read the forms end up asking stupid questions, such as, "The form says I need to do X. Do I really need to do X? I was thinking of doing Y. Will that be OK?" I'm not trying to rag on people, but damn, you KNOW it's true!

As for the discussions - all of the interesting ones turn into flame fests by people who can't stand that someone else might have a different opinion and resort to insults. It's not much fun (:

Now - if you excuse me, I have to pick up my sweetie so we can go to a diving lesson (:

Cheers!

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

Actually, of all the regional forums on VJ, I'd venture to say the RU forum has the least number of clueless posts. Redundant and tired old questions make up a pretty small majority of the posts here.

Hey, if you had the right opinion, then I would tolerate it. So there, Mr. Poopy Pants!

Heh...the first time I read that as "driving lesson" and I thought, "oh no, not another goddamned 'driving lesson' thread!" Then I saw that you're going for a diving lesson...SWEET! I've been scuba diving for a couple years now...nothin' like it. Enjoy!

Yeah, as I have previously posted, I can't understand why learning how to drive seems to be the equivalent of landing a man on the moon for some people either.

Then I saw that you're going for a diving lesson...SWEET! I've been scuba diving for a couple years now...nothin' like it.
That's way too long. You need to get back in the water (: This particular lesson was a drysuit certification class (sweetie got her OW and Nitrox certs about this time last year). This weekend we're going diving. With any luck, sweetie will complete her PADI Advanced and Drysuit Specialty certifications (:

Nope, I mean I *have* been diving for the last 2 years. :) It's a blast, I love it. I went through SSI, been wanting to get my drysuit for awhile, but dang those suits are expensive.

I think a lot of them have gotten their fiancees/spouses here and are enjoying the time together. I think they are still around just not as active.

This is what normally happens. We'll go through spells where it seems like there are 40 people on here every day and then it'll die down to where it's the same five or six people posting about scammers, world oil demand, cars, Russian food, etc.

But..... stick around long enough, and it'll pick back up!

Edited: Wow! Just realized I've been on VJ for over three years now. My wife's right, I really have wasted a good chunk of my life here. But, now that she's here wasting her life with me, I think there's a good argument that VJ had a lot to do with that. Thanks VJ! (And at the same time..... I HATE YOU VJ!!!)

Umm feeling a little bipolar there slim. I know how you feel I have been hanging around between the wife and the kid(almost 1 yr old) I have been terribly busy but I always feel a little guilty that I dont log on more than to add my 2 cents. I want to be able to help people like I was given or at least let them know that they are not alone.

Thanks VJ you have made my life a wonderful carnival ride of stress and happiness.

Oops. I misread as "I have not been diving in 2 years" (:

Yeah, the drysuits are expensive. I only got one because I needed one for a week and figured that since a week rental would cost about $300, I would be better off putting that money into buying one. In 2004, I got a Bare XCD2 (http://www.scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?product_id=XCD2Tech) and Bare T-100 Polarware undergarment (http://www.scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?product_id=T100Polarwear) for about $850, shipped. I knew I got a good deal, but damn! If I were buying this same stuff today, it would be over $1700 plus shipping!! Glad I got it when I did (: If you wanna dive up here, you kinda need a drysuit of some kind though.

On that note - my sweetie completed her classes this weekend (just got back a little bit ago). She got in 6 dives (all in a rental drysuit) and completed the PADI Advanced and Drysuit Specialty courses. I got in 2 dives and completed the Drysuit Specialty course myself, even though my original four open water dives were all in a drysuit and I've got maybe 25 drysuit dives already, I figured I would set a good example for my wife (:

Reports indicate my sweetie prefers warm water diving to cold water diving.

Cheers!

Yeah, I can understand drysuits being a requirement up in your neck of the woods. :) Here in norcal they're not required, but it's either drysuits or 7mm. 7mm's a helluva lot of neoprene to keep in the water, and I hate carrying all the lead shot around to do it. It'll be a good year or so before I can justify the cost. I'll probably do the drysuit cert through SSI in the next 6 months or so though.

Moledets on you and your better half's certifications, sounds like a successful weekend!

Still here, but haven't posted much lately.

Visited Svetlana July 28-Aug. 8, met her family, had great time.

She got her visa this week. Still waiting on travel agent to show me what kind of itinerary he can come up for her arrival in Fort Lauderdale in October.

She'll be bringing a medium-sized, easily scared dog, so I hope and pray there will be no complications.

Has anyone noticed that we're loosing our russian members of VJ?

Haven't seen Jeff in a while. ( Kazan tiger....i think that was his nick)

I too am still here. Just working too much, not enough time to waste here.

Slim - I've actually been up in Ohio quite a bit (Cleveland). And Atlanta when not there.

San Fran, Austin, Atlanta, Boston, and London are next up on this year's travel schedule.

Sat - I guess you really have disappeared. How is the law treating you?

It is again that special time of year when we plan our trip to Russia, probably 2 weeks for me,

2 months for Mrs. Russ this time around. Her best friend from University has been back there

for 3 months now, I think she is getting jealous. I get 2 months of vacation a year, Mrs. Russ

gets none... I foresee some arguments here...

Galina has also reminded me that all paperwork for removing conditions will be ready the day it is to be

mailed. Which gives me 5 days to do the taxes come February -- (typically an 8 month ordeal for me).

So, what are the old timers (from '04-'05) up to these days? Haven't seen anything from Med since I

don't know when. (FYI - calling my wife baby bear is not very smart - baby bears are clumsy, ugly

things. Who knew? )

2004-08-23: Met in Chicago

2005-10-19: K-1 Interview, Moscow (approved)

2007-02-23: Biometrics

2007-04-11: AOS Interview (Approved)

If you're ever in this corner of the state, PM me! You know the drill, the standard, "if you're in my neck of the woods, drinks are on me." (Goes for all VJ-ers!)

I foresee some arguments here...

What would marriage to a young Russian woman be like without arguments? I sure as hell don't know. Peace and quiet comes with going out of town.... alone!

Galina has also reminded me that all paperwork for removing conditions will be ready

Where's she been lately? She was on here just as much, if not more, than you for a while. Busy too, huh?

I'm up to the same stuff I was up to before. Working, sleeping, chasing the wife around and trying to stay out of the dog house. I've been getting more and more involved in Project Appleseed (www.appleseedinfo.org) on the weekends and that's actually helped us to spend some time apart. I think there's a healthy level of personal hobbies and interests in a marriage and a lot of the couples here on VJ don't really explore that as much as they should. They're so busy trying to force everything to work together they almost lose their individuality in the relationship and then it becomes a problem when they start to need some space and don't really know how to go about getting it.

Don't be scared to do things without your S/O. It could be good for your relationship! You don't want to leave them home alone every day when they first get here, but doing something by yourselves once a month or every couple of months is a good idea. We spend all that time apart from each other while going through the VJ process, leading separate lives; sometimes we need to revisit that. I don't know if russ would agree with me or not but I know whenever I go out of town and come back it's kind of weird, but it's almost like she missed me while I was gone. Had I been home all weekend or whatever, she probably wouldn't mind me being gone!

And yes, you have to watch what you "pet name" your baby bear at home. Some of you will be surprised but the sweetest, nicest, most romantic thing you can think of to call your little sweety may put her in the worst mood ever. "Bear so ugly, blat! They not have conorda, conordidation, whatever, blat! and can't move whissout hit zemself on @$$." Choose wisely, grass hopper.
