On the I-131, Part 7, Question 1, should we put for more then one trip? I am asking because who knows. Also what did people write to explain how they qualified for AP?

Family based adjustment of status people do not need to explain why AP is needed, other than "To be able to visit home while I-485 is being processed".

The AP doc will be multi-use for 1 year after it is issued.

Check one trip, or more than one if you plan on more than one trip

Consider that I-131 is used for many different situations.

I would check the "more than one trip" box. I can't remember who, but I saw a thread on here somewhere where someone said that they got an AP that was only valid for one trip. Even if you are only planning for one specific trip, you may decide you'd like to be able to go to Mexico or Canada for a weekend or something, or you could end up needing to go home again for something you hadn't anticipated.

What most people I've seen answer this say they have done is attach the separate page the form asks for and say they are applying for adjustment of status from K1 (or K3) visa and might want to visit family while waiting. As Dan and Yu said, it is a multiple purpose form and they are pretty aware of what AOS filers need an AP for.

No need to explain how you quailfy, your AOS does that since you are filing together I-485 and I-131.

Hello I'm in the same situation and everyone's tips are great but I have a question to add

do we have to fill out part 4? this form is confusing because it says right after part three: If you are applying for an Advance Parole Document, skip to Part 7.

but then it goes on asking you where you want this document to be sent....

so back to the question: do we have to fill out part 4 giving an explaination of travel and where my husband wants to travel?

AOS:

August 8, 2008: We're married!! (both the ceremony and legal wedding)

September 11, 2008: Got the marriage certificate in the mail!! 

September 20, 2008: Sent AOS packet (I-485, EAD, AP)

September 22, 2008: USPS confirmed delivery at LockBox

September 26, 2008: Check Cashed!! :)

September 25, 2008: Recv'd date on all NOA's 

September 30, 2008: Received all 3 NOA's: I-485, EAD, AP

Ocotber 10, 2008: RFE for I-485 (needed proof of citizenship for sponsor) :S

October 21, 2008: Biometrics @12 pm in Ft. Lauderdale~over and done with in 5min!!~

October 22, 2008: documents for RFE sent via Priority Mail

October 24, 2008: documents received at MO

November 6, 2008: Case transferred to CSC :D

December 10, 2008: EAD approved!! Card production ordered!

Dec. 15, 2008: Rec'd EAD and AP via mail.

March 2, 2009: AOS Approved

March 9, 2009: Green Card Received!!!
