Ok we are 3 months waiting in AP for CR1

but I really need to know what that means.

Does he receive a green card immediately once he comes on a CR1 visa?

can he drive if he brings a driving permit from Maroc?

I just need more details, as I have said, I have a really incompetent lawyer and my hubby thinks he will not be getting his green card, arriving here in US..this is why we are waiting this time now, so when he comes the AOS is finished.

Is this correct?

Anyone recently receiving the CR1 can surely shed some light on what will happen once he gets the call to come get his visa.

what reason, if any, would they DENY him a visa if they already granted him K3?

I can help in regards to the CR 1 as that's the way that we went.

Once he arrives here.. I am guessing that Philly will be your POE also ? That's where Jihed came in. Your hubby will go through customs there and the agents are mostly very friendly - They will take the envelope from him, finger print him, and remind him that in 2 years he has to file to lift conditions.

At this point the process starts - Customs sends information out and it will begin the generation of his Green Card. Jihed's came from Texas and I think that is where most come from for CR 1- but someone will correct me surely if I am wrong.

He arrived on May 18, 2008 and he got his Green card on June 15, 2008 in the mail. There aren't really any phone calls to make or anything else for you to do but just wait for them to send it. Though I would say if by one - two months he does not have it you can place a phone call to them and ask.

Now one strange thing that did happen to us - The letter they send acknowledging his entry into the USA (where the POE was and the date) came 7 times - I swear the same letter, same information, 7 times however it would have different dates sometimes in the same week on the NOA date. I don't know what that was all about but I just laughed and thought back to all those times I laid awake at night praying to find something from USCIS or NVC in my mailbox and this time it was crammed full of them resending the same thing! I called them and asked about it and they said system snafu and just ignore it.

He will need to get a social security card/ number. As CR 1 he's entitled to that as soon as he gets in the country. We did check the box on the paper at the Embassy to have one issued, but it never came nor went into the system. SSA kept telling us that there was a back up with Homeland Security and that they had to review information before a social security card was sent for him. After weeks of waiting I got more proactive and we went down to the office.

I can give you the link to the website - it's just www.ssa.gov and you can print out the SS5 http://www.ssa.gov/online/ss-5.pdf fill that out and take it into your local (closest ) office. For us it was Dover, Delaware. You show them the visa and the form you signed and they will give him a paper with his name and address saying that he applied for a card and that one is on it's way. He can use that when applying for jobs as well - since he is okay to work right away.

Anything else that you need to know I'd be glad to help with.

Driving is going to depend on the laws in PA. Delaware required that we show 3 proofs of Delaware residency for him to get a permit - Three pieces of mail with his name on them - like a utility bill, cable bill, etc - A lease or contract for an apartment.. Any of those work. Go to your local DMV website and all the information will be there for you! If he brings a driving permit from Morocco I don't know how that works but the DMV site should explain it and give you telephone numbers to ask questions.

I just wanted to add :

Yes if he comes here on the CR 1 visa his AOS is finished for right now. You won't have to do anything else for 2 years - From the date he comes into the country - POE - he has 2 years - before that 2 year mark ( up to 90 days ) you have to file to life conditions - There is an area on VJ for that where you can read about it when the time comes and you have to prepare. But for almost the next 2 years you have nothing to do but love on each other :luv:

.this is why we are waiting this time now, so when he comes the AOS is finished.

He is going to get his visa, incha allah. I know it's hard and sometimes it does not make any sense, but there's a plan and a reason and I'm going to keep praying for you that tomorrow you are going to wake up and get word that he needs to go to the embassy for pick up!!!!

Thanks sweetie!

You have been so helpful.

Now if only I KNEW he was definitely going to get his Visa.

I mean why some get theirs so quick and others just wait I dont know

It takes upto 1 month to receive a greencard once he arrives. The USCIS states if it has been 30 days and no greencard to call them. I don't think that he can drive with his Morrocan driver's license. He would have to apply for a PA driver's license. Good luck.

CR1 = Conditional Resident

If he has an international driver's license he can drive in the US. Otherwise, he will need to apply for a state driver's license

After one month, your husband will get a resident card in the mail. Also, he should receive his social security card in the mail after three weeks IF you requested on the DS-230 forms to have one issued to him once he arrives in the US. Please note: sometimes the Department of State does not process this and you will still have to go to the social security local office to get a card issued.
